I've been having as much fun as anyone around here lately with the tawdry, disturbing revelations and scandals that just seem to grow more juicy on a daily basis. I'm certainly not above anyone here in that regard. In fact, I may be "below" a lot of you, because I really, really enjoy it.
But just now, I saw a thread that reminded us all that we are near the 2,000 mark for US dead in Iraq. I'm not embarrassed to say that my eyes filled with tears. I remembered that I came to DU on the eve of the "war", when there was still hope that it could be stopped. I was a techno-phobe and had never used the internet before, but I could not find any reliable information anywhere else. Those of us on DU in those days did everything we could to stop the invasion, and we knew everything the corporate media is finally starting to acknowledge WAY BACK THEN.
But we didn't stop it. The invasion went ahead, propelled by lies. And now nearly 2,000 of our brave soldiers are dead. Why have they been sacrificed? Well, as Cindy found out, this administration can't even be bothered to come up with a flimsy excuse, let alone a real reason. They just don't care.
So as we rejoice in the scandals, let's not forget, the Iraq invasion is at the heart of all of them. The shameful lies told by this administration triggered the entire investigation. We are not wrong to wallow in their misery. We are on the side of the angels.
