We are right to wallow in the misery of the * administration.
Edited on Sat Oct-22-05 04:32 PM by senseandsensibility
I've been having as much fun as anyone around here lately with the tawdry, disturbing revelations and scandals that just seem to grow more juicy on a daily basis. I'm certainly not above anyone here in that regard. In fact, I may be "below" a lot of you, because I really, really enjoy it.

But just now, I saw a thread that reminded us all that we are near the 2,000 mark for US dead in Iraq. I'm not embarrassed to say that my eyes filled with tears. I remembered that I came to DU on the eve of the "war", when there was still hope that it could be stopped. I was a techno-phobe and had never used the internet before, but I could not find any reliable information anywhere else. Those of us on DU in those days did everything we could to stop the invasion, and we knew everything the corporate media is finally starting to acknowledge WAY BACK THEN.

But we didn't stop it. The invasion went ahead, propelled by lies. And now nearly 2,000 of our brave soldiers are dead. Why have they been sacrificed? Well, as Cindy found out, this administration can't even be bothered to come up with a flimsy excuse, let alone a real reason. They just don't care.

So as we rejoice in the scandals, let's not forget, the Iraq invasion is at the heart of all of them. The shameful lies told by this administration triggered the entire investigation. We are not wrong to wallow in their misery. We are on the side of the angels.

there was never any hope this war could be "stopped"....it had been planned for a long, long time....and who was going to stop it? The same media and American public who allowed the necons to steal the presidential election?

7. I don't" know" that
I agree that it was extremely unlikely, but not impossible. All it would have taken is, say, Colin Powell to show some guts, and refuse to testify before the UN. Better yet, he could have testified AGAINST going to war. If, in addition to that, the corporate media had told the truth, who knows?

4. I want to revel too
even wallow in their downfall but I want also for us not to have to be reminded on "a thread" that we're nearing the 2000 mark. I want the media to shout it out every newscast, every day. I want the flag draped coffins to get more air time than the stupid news stories we're inundated with. Do you think the tide could possibly turn that much in the media?

Sorry, but I don't. The corporate media hates reporting anything that reflects badly on their chimp, and I don't see that changing. They have been in his pocket from day one, when they are supposed to be working for us. What a joke.
