Bush: "The USA believes freedom is God's gift."
Edited on Sat Oct-22-05 08:23 PM by Bluebear

"The United States led a coalition to not only uphold that doctrine, but to free the people of Afghanistan. We believe strongly in this country that freedom is not America's gift to the world, we believe strongly that freedom is God's gift to every individual in the world. (Applause.)"

1. Then let God take care of it
Edited on Sat Oct-22-05 08:22 PM by bluestateguy
I have a feeling that He has a lot more power to provide freedom to people that the US military does. So let Him take care of it.

I get sick of this American exceptionalist bullshit.

6. Bush loves those bullshit lines that don't mean anything.
Oh, he loves to say his homilies, his little "twinkle-eyed" comments, where he turns that melon shaped head of his to the side and looks at you like a dog trying to understand television.

If Freedom is the almighty's gift, then let's pull the fuck out of Iraq, you miserable little POS, and let God decide what freedom is!

I never tire of finding new ways to malign the smarmy little bastid.

He truly represents everything I despise in a human being.

If he thinks it, then the USA thinks it - of course, I sometimes feel invincible when I am drunk, too.

14. Ugh
I love how he says "we" when he clearly means "I" - i hate having other people speak for me, especially when its in the subject of religion. As an atheist, i feel particularly offended by this comment.

15. Sickening pro corporate quotes from that speech:
"And I want to thank Roy for his leadership and encourage others who are CEOs in corporate America to encourage those who've heard the call to love a neighbor like you'd like to be loved yourself to do so by good corporate policy."

"By far, the vast majority of people in corporate America are honest, decent folks. "

Tort reform so that big corps get away with murder and regular Americans get screwed:

"We need to do something about class-action lawsuits, as well. We've got a system today where people are able to shop a class-action lawsuit for a sympathetic jury in the state courts, even though this is federal in nature. In other words, they cross jurisdictional boundaries. They're shopping it, who can find the best jury."

16. no, that's just the rnc/bush admin usurping america's loftiest poetry...
for war-profiteering purposes; i think greater than even freedom = reason to be a primary gift from my creator but that's just me  freedom & liberty to my mind flow from a proximity to reason and not the other way around imo the bush admin having little concern for any three such concepts: freedom, liberty, or reason; vis-a-vis 'we the people'...how the hell are they to able espouse any one in particular...odd, very odd if characteristic

20. Uhhh, no, not quite.
The way I heard it is that Jesus Christ was God's gift to the world. Jesus, and the gift of grace. But the gift of freedom is never mentioned.

The Bible only mentions freedom twice:

LEVITICUS 19
20 And whosoever lieth carnally with a woman, that is a bondmaid, betrothed to an husband, and not at all redeemed, nor FREEDOM given her; she shall be scourged; they shall not be put to death, because she was not free.
ACTS 22
28 And the chief captain answered, With a great sum obtained I this FREEDOM. And Paul said, But I was free born.

Concordance at http://www.godsview.com/

But of course, that's God's view. bush thinks he knows better than God.

22. Enough with the "God stuff" already. Believe it or not, shrubby, there
are some Americans who do not believe in "your" God.

I am so sick of hearing about God in every one of his lame speeches.

(Sorry if I offended anyone...didn't mean to.)

Bush: No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God.
