4. As opposed to living in desolation???
I'd take suburbia over third world conditions any day

Freedom means you get to choose there you want to live

Your picture of the tract housing most people would give their right arm to live in

6. I will pass on the housing tract.
Never cared for living in a community that looks like a printed circuit board from the air. Give me a less sterile, inner city, older neighborhood...but we are about to sell our more desirable ( Cir. 1937 ) house and move to a printed circuit board - due to property taxes. Granted its better than Cairo or parts of the Dominican Republic I have seen - but I will keep the right arm. Might consider moving to a small town in Washington state.

7. Not that you advoate this scenario, but...
...it's been my experience that many "urban planners" would like us all to live in high-rise apartments, right beside the railroad tracks. That's not my idea of a good time.

8. Freedom for me looks like this.
60 foot electric drive catamaran juiced with solars sails, water generators, propellor generators, and wind gennies.... small backup diesel generator... full comforts of home... washer/dryer/fridge/freezer/TV/Internet anywhere via satellite.

Park where you want. Tahiti or Tobago, Thailand or Turkey.

Wind and sun are free.

I did the liveaboard thing in the nineties... and I sure miss it.

Just saving to build the next boat - which might be a Shuttleworth design like this one.

9. Bush/Cheney want to pave paradise, put up a parking lot.
No wonder they don't want to be like us. I don't want to be like us.
