Who lives in freeper hell but can see Dems on the march?
I'm not asking if you see signs of "bush-hating". That's everywhere. But are there any real democratic movements going on in your very red area?

Myself, I don't live in the third district anymore, but western Nebraska is about as red as it gets. The democratic candidate for congress has been a complete joke if there even is one. This time they recruited a young good-looking regular-guy farmer who - gasp - has a website and an endorsment from Bob Kerrey. Frankly I know very little about him and I'm not sure if this will translate into a real race but I think we are making a honest effort out there for the first time in forever. Any other "stories of hope"?

1. West Michigan is hard core Christian Taliban and we have very little
chance of an uprising here.

2. I see it, albeit it is small.
Lots and lots of support for Tim Kaine here, and some diehard rethugs pretty angry at the *.

4. I heard he is leading in some polls now
Sounds like he's come a long way. Kaine pulling it out would mean alot to democrats nationally I think as Virginia is a state we had hoped would become a battleground. Good luck out there. I think we'll need it.

13. I think the fact that Kilgore's ads were so misleading
really helped him. Kaine is running an issues based campaign, as opposed to Kilgore's attack based. I think he is going to win.

3. I have been to western Nebraska a few times
And I love this post! What great news.

From your neighbor to the south - other than the crap over the state science standards, things are slowly moving in the right direction here as well. Our asshole AG wants to run for governor and is not getting a good reception.

In MO, Baby Blunt is pissing everyone off. He made a huge mistake by taking Medicaid away from too many of those who voted for him. He is now the 3rd least popular gov in the USA.

6. There is alot of potential in the Midwest
Of course bush is pissing most people off and I think there is more anger at our Congresspeople, governors and local officials than usual. People aren't completely stupid, they see the rural economy is in shambles. If we could just get out a positive message for change, I really think we could win some elections in places we've left for dead.

11. When I was in western NE in July
I was stunned at the number of Hummers. But I also noticed a fight over water dominated the news. So energy and resources may be the best issue for our side to bring up, eh?

Bible-thumpin' Central Florida is still
as red as can be. First the good news, I've seen fewer "Bush-Cheney '04" bumper stickers and other pro-Bush paraphernalia, and that's saying something because just one short year ago that crap was visible every-damn-where. Bad news, the Florida Democratic party is in disarray due to financial and leadership woes. The only bright spot is Bill Nelson is out-polling Katharine Harris for now, could swing in the other direction if Nelson's team isn't vigilant.

7. i'd like to say yes, but in south carolina
the repukes are prepared to continue the reign of the busheviks despite all the evidence against them. they're loading up their pick up trucks with assault weapons in preparation of breaking rove, libby and any others out of prison so they can once again assume their rightful place at the right hand of dubya the demigod. wish i had some good news.

8. Texas is turning purple
Believe it.

The Republican culture of corruption has fatigued everyone. The incompetence at the state level over the inability to fund public education after two regular and two special sessions of the Lege has outraged even bedrock GOP.

The Pukes are clinging together in a fragile coalition of fundamentalists and country-clubbers, but even they realize how much they despise each other. It won't hold.

The Dems can take advantage, but only by standing up and fighting for the little guy (and gal).

9. I wonder
If Delay vs. Morrison was held in 2005 instead of 2004 who would win. I'm not sure how aware of the corruption non-political junkies were last November. And of course bush is more of an anchor than an asset this year.

sloooowly turning. I think we should have a DU convention in Salt Lake City!

15. Here in the rural areas of southern California
I don't see much change at hand, sadly. They can't even keep Air America on the radio here. The Bush stickers have diminished a little but just put a peace sign on your car and watch the people avoid you and eye you up like you're the spawn of the devil.

The Dems need to do something here. I suggested a massive mailing to every household with a glossy mailer describing what we're for and debunking the most common myths about us. I just don't see how things are going to change here unless the Dems make some sort of effort. I'm involved with a Dem club but new ideas are not looked upon with favor there even though the old ones aren't working.
