It is said that when criticized for so-called foul language in his writing he responded that he could write any fucking thing he wants.

I happen to agree. The word fuck and its derivatives have long since found their way into the lexicon. Like spice, a judiciously small amount of profanity can add character. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using profanity, including the word fuck.
