Fair is fair, addiction is addiction. I do hope it works this time.

Really.

1. How about, instead...
...we give Rush the same chances we would give anyone else. Treat him as we would treat others, not as he has treated them.

2. Good one.
I'm absolutely sick of this, "I hope Rush suffers like hell" garbage that's worthy of Free Republic.

If you hate Rush and criticize him for his views, that's one thing. Mocking his suffering is odious behavior.

4. Yeah, it's fun to see drug addicts suffer.
That's what being a progressive is all about.

7. sympathy for the devil
if only Rush(and his dittoheads) had a similar humanity towards those suffering from poverty and drug addiction.

Rush as a flawed individual person I have full sympathy.

However, RUSH as the personafication of conservatism, I say fuck him.

8. So I imagine you supported Jimmy Swaggart while he ranted and raved
about "immorality" on TV as he begged a whore in New Orleans to get her pre-teen daughter into a sexual liaison with the Rev. Right?

Our last elected president used bad judgment and got a blowjob from a very willing woman. Then he lied about it. Duh. Surely that was a first in the history of the world...a guy gets a hummer from someone he isn't married to then denies it. The wingnuts literally made a (70 million dollar) federal case out of it.

The "right wingers" have made a major point of "personal responsibility" the last few years. They don't adhere to that much when one of their own is culpable. Indeed, they demonize anyone who isn't a neo-con who fails their 'morality test', but when it comes to one of their own, the approach is just "apologize and it's over". Bullshit. That is hypocrisy of the first water and it doesn't wash with this "progressive" as you so cleverly label Liberals (one of which I am proud to be..)

See the Snellius thread re: Rush, Darryl & Kurt.

He said it's about choices.

This IS fun, but tomorrow we really needto get back to pounding Wilson-Gate.

5. Rush is a JUNKIE
Preface: drug addiction is a horrible condition and I do not wish it on ANYONE.

That said, I cannot feel full sympathy for a man who spent most of his conservative radio career ridiculing and admonishing other druggies. Moreover, I know that he had priviledges that prevented him from descending into the world of those 'low-lifes'(i.e. he didn't have to rob a store or mug someone in order to maintain his habit.)

I remember when Daryl Gates(former LAPD chief) said that all druggies should be taken out and shot. And while I find such sentiments outrageous(not to mention fascistic). I am pretty sure that a lot of 'dittoheads' found those type of sentiments agreeable(not to mention assenting to the fascistic 'war on drugs'/three-strikes-and-you-are-out mentality).

So to the Freepers of the world: what is the proper treatment for druggies?

6. I was passing by Joe Scarborough's screed and he had Anne the
Man on. They were gushing. Anne sounded like she was
talking about her new boyfriend. They're giving him
a total pass. Incredible the level of dementia and
denial that these people have.

Anne: Yes. Its totally amazing how funny and how he
could explain things addicted to drugs. Wait until
you let him loose when he's <cleaned up>

I am flabbergasted.

10. it's the hypocrisy, stupid
dictionary:
1 : a feigning to be what one is not or to believe what one does not; especially : the false assumption of an appearance of virtue or religion
2 : an act or instance of hypocrisy

yes, pity the man for his affiction but hold him accountable for misleading millions. all addicts must face their demons. he must repair the damage

11. Rush Starts To Get Sympathy When...
He TRULY admits he has a drug problem. Confronts he is controlled by his demons.

In his spiel today he said he was addicted to prescription medications. Not that he had been doing opiates for years, but attempted to dress it other than what it was. Prescribed medications come from a licensed physician, not your housekeeper!

Let's see what happens when Rush comes out of the latest rehab...if there's a definite effort to cure his addiction, then I'm pulling for him 100%.
