Have you gotten a bill from the gas company this month?
well i just got mine from PG&E and i haven't turned my heat on not will i until Dec, anyhow i've actually cooked less this month and i don't have a gas dryer yet my bill went up, last month it was $12.98, this month it's $18.41. Now mind you it's a small bill but when the cold weather gets here i'm dreading how much it will shoot up, last year during the cold months it's averaged about $100 a month.

1. Last Feb I got a gas bill for $325.00 for 1 month---I was in a
new (to me) apartment in an old house, and my thermostat is set at 65 during the day and 55 at night. Needless to say,I moved.

God help the new tenants this year,

for a summer month.

4. Mine jumped from $13ish one month to $24 the next
Interesting, since it was summer, and the only thing powered by gas in out house during the summer is the hot water heater. I hadn't changed the setting, and we actually used less water that particular month. I was mightily peeved.

I finally turned the heat on this weekend (we have a heat pump) and the thermostat is set at a balmy 65 during the day and 60 overnight. I'm already freezing, I shudder to think how awful it will be for folks farther north on smaller/fixed incomes. We're on the poor end of things, so it's a necessity to keep it cooler. I'm fully anticipating having to lower the thermostat to 62 during the day.

5. In the summer its just the water heater on the gas and the bill for Nov. 5
was 35.00 (for 16 ccf). Usually in the summer the bill runs about $21.00

Something else I noticed odd about the bill: You know there's the base cost amount, and the gas cost adjustment amount. Well normally they are about the same, the gas cost adjustment is usually a few cents higher per CCF.

This most recent bill, the base amount was $0.065something per ccf (down from .60something last month), and the gas cost adjustment was $1.48 per ccf!!!! The gas cost adjustment last month was $0.70something!!!!!

This bill is going to kill me when I start running the heater this winter(which my boyfriend actually did this morning because it was freezing in the house when we got up) No christmas presents this year. My friends and family's gifts will be the fact that we haven't frozen to death.

7. I'm dreading the winter bills
My house is heated by using my hot water to make hot air and my water heater is gas. (I found this out when my hwh died in February-brrr) I usually have it around 65 anyway but maybe I will invest in heavier blankets and try to find a full-body parka. I do have a fireplace though, so that will help and I love having fires anyway.
