OTTAWA (Reuters) - Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin attacked U.S. trade policy on Monday as U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice made her first official visit to Canada and played down a long-standing lumber dispute.

"Friends live up to their agreements," Martin said bluntly in calling on the United States to respect a North American Free Trade Agreement ruling.

1. Oh, Canada!
Thank you, Prime Minister, for telling Condasleeza the truth. I liked your comments about US houses costing more because of Bush's lumber policy, and also your comments about guns.

5. Considering how Canada is getting royally screwed by us....
Good for Prime Minister Paul Martin.

I wouldn't blame Canada one damn bit if they decided to withdraw from NAFTA. They have been on the short end of the stick with that "Free trade" agreement since it was signed.

10. I think ALL of our trade relationships are
on shaky ground these days. I think there is NO country on earth, except maybe Pakistan, that likes what we're doing.

If it's true according to Stan Goff that we've become the Loan Shark of the world, then we're really toast. The problem is, we're all in the same boat together.

Think of Kurt Russell, who played the sleazy used car salesman in the movie "Used Cars".

That's us.

6. Yep, restrictions on the sale of energy is also being discussed
"TORONTO and OTTAWA - Canada could retaliate against the United States over the softwood lumber dispute by placing restrictions on any area of U.S.-Canada trade -- including energy -- by the middle of next year, the Minister of International Trade said yesterday.

Jim Peterson, speaking in Toronto in advance of the visit of U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to Ottawa, said the softwood issue has "cast a storm cloud over the entire NAFTA."

Asked whether retaliatory measures against Washington could include a controversial proposal to limit energy exports, Mr. Peterson, speaking to reporters after an address to the Canadian Association of Importers and Exporters, responded that "all U.S.-Canada trade" would be on the table.

Asked again whether trade restrictions could specifically include energy, the Minister reiterated that all types of trade under NAFTA would be considered for retaliatory measures."

It takes a lot to piss us off but bush managed it, lol. 77% of Canadians support restricting energy sales until the bush cabal adheres to the NAFTA rulings.

9. I'm sure China would be willing...
..to buy our natural gas, our oil, etc...

This whole situation pisses me off. The US is not the only market for our resources and products and should stop acting like we should be grateful for taking them off our hands.

12. Oh yes, they just signed a MAJOR trade agreement with Canada
including energy trade. The intent is to seek other markets for our resources to reduce the dependence on the U.S. market for our exports.

The middle east is not enough. Europe is not enough.
GW has to go burn bridges with Canada. What a DOPE!
Please, people, understand, he is not our "elected" representative.
He's a thief. We're working on getting him some jail time.

13. My favorite part from that news clip
"During their three-hour meeting, Martin also pressed Washington to help reduce the northward flow of illegal guns he said were becoming a growing problem in Canada.

Canadian Justice Minister Irwin Cotler said he would explore the idea of Canada's provinces suing U.S. gun manufacturers. "

We sued Marlboro because their product killed people. I think it is time that we sued the gun manufacturers for the same reason.
