1. Any competent physicist could have told them that
(just like the DOE physicist tried to do with the famous aluminum tubes, but of course they would not listen).

2. Could just any competent physicist have made it
simple enough for John and Jane Doe to understand like this guy has? Also if any competent physicist knew, why didn't they say something loud and long?

4. Many did, especially at the IAEA and in the UN weapons inspectors teams,
But it is difficult to compete with hysterical propaganda like "we don't want the smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud."

Thanks for posting the link! If this is, indeed, the case it puts a whole new layer on everything to do with the march to 'war', imo.

Edited to add: Am reading the comments to the diary and this one, so far, stood out as making eminent sense as to why the names on the forged documents were so outdated:

Question... (4.00 / 8)

I read in an analysis of the Niger Forgeries (one of emptywheel's many posts, I think) that some of the names of officials were very wrong and that one of those names was actually someone who was in Niger back in 1982. (I'll have to go look for this to confirm). My question is: is it possible that someone who had access to the paperwork from the original Iraq purchase from Niger in 1982 (i.e. referenced in the story that that came out in 1991) used this as the copy to create the currently discussed forgeries from?

You know, use something that WAS for real at one time, transcribe it to change the names and dates to make it look current and pass it off as real? Only they forgot to change a name (or screwed up on a name), therefore making the forgery obvious to those in the know who would look at it?

If so, who from 1991 would have had access to a REAL purchase agreement between Iraq and Niger from 1982 to be used as the basis for a current forgery?

Canadians care too...
