CONTRARIAN COMMENTARY BY ANDY MARTIN

AMERICA’S DAILY BRIEFING FOR OCTOBER 27, 2005

DON’T MESS WITH TEXAS? LOVE THOSE WHITE SOX

EVEN BASEBALL TURNS AGAINST BUSH

(CHICAGO)(October 27, 2005) Chicago is in a state of pandemonium this morning. Whistles, sirens, horns, screaming, it’s wild. The mighty Chicago White Sox have won the World Series after an 88-year drought (the year my mother was born!).

This column does not normally deal with baseball, but why not? Baseball was one of the most formative experiences of my young life. I wasn’t much of a player but even as a kid I was one hell of a manager. So I appreciate what goes into winning.

Besides, tonight it is impossible to concentrate. The din outside my window is awesome. (Yes, I live in Chicago.)

Well, is there a cosmic dimension to this great Chicago victory? Maybe, maybe not. As for myself, after finishing this column I’m going out to celebrate. This is no night to be a stick in the mud.

But what about President Bush and his mantra “Don’t mess with Texas?” The Chicago boys rolled into Texas, and rolled up the Houston Astros. No, Texans are not invincible. Bush is learning that the hard way.

1. That's because Bush isn't a real Texan
And has anyone asked why he is an Astros fan when his son was the owner of the Rangers?

2. Junior EVEN stole the "Don't Mess With Texas" thing
"Don't Mess With Texas" was the FANTASTIC and BRILLIANT Governor Ann Richards' baby.

I'm glad the White Sox won, PITY that Poppy and Babs didn't pop their clogs at Houston losing. As a STAUNCH Cardinals fan, I've NEVER rooted for another team UNTIL the White Sox played the Astros.

7. The Astro's aren't a terribly bad team
I'm a Braves girl myself. :) And I'm still pissed about the Ann Richards thing and I'm not even a Texan. From what I've learned about her she seems like a sweet lady.

8. The Astros and Ann Richards
Edited on Thu Oct-27-05 12:35 AM by ...of J.Temperance
It's the sort of people who support the Astros by and large, and I know we have some people here who support them TOO, BUT those people are the exception.

A friend of mine, he's an immigrant and he drives a taxi around Dallas-Ft. Worth, anyhow, a few years ago Ann Richards rode in his taxi and he said she was LOVELY and VERY amusing.

On Edit: Can't BELIEVE I spelt exception incorrectly the first time.

3. Congratulations to the White Sox winning after 88 years.
But, for the record, Don't Mess With Texas is the slogan for a roadside anti-littering campaign.

And don't blame the Astros or Houston because Poppy and the Bag are baseball fans. Because he's an ex-president he gets those front row seats. George Will is a big Cubs fan, isn't he? That's not the Cubs fault.

5. Very very interesting
Fitzgerald is from Chicago and Bush from Texas. Could this be a future sign? ;)

9. I always root against ANY team from Texas or Florida
Doesn't matter what sport or what level. I want every team from states who empower members of the Bush Crime Family to lose every game at every level. If a team from Florida plays a team from Texas, then I root for series hugh injuries.

10. I felt kinda bad for the Astros being swept, but
I did not feel bad for the decrepit faux cowboys who were moping in their box seats!

11. Witness the reaction of Barb and Poppy
Similar to the same reaction we'll see when bush is dethroned, LOL.
