Conventions 2004.....what is going to happen?

I expect that both conventions are going to be ruckus affairs, particularly the Republican Party's convention in NYC.

I find it was a slap in the face for New Yorkers to have the GOP to hold their convention around the 9/11 anniversary. It's as if the Bushites are exploiting the crap out of a major tragedy. I can imagine thousands of angry New Yorkers protesting outside Madison Square Garden and confrontations of a Chicago 68-style proportion. I can only imagine what the families of the 9/11 victims are feeling right now. Sheer outrage. I am convinced it could get ugly even if Bloomburg declares a ban on protests that week, many people are going to give him and that ban the finger.

As for the Democratic Party convention, I expect the ruckus will be between Dean and Clark supporters. I don't expect too much trouble in Boston.


Stay tuned, it will be interesting all around.

.. a candlelight protest in NYC on the night of Bush's speech. Complete with tons of signs that say "stop exploiting 9/11."

If we can get tens of thousands of people to do that in perfect silence.. wow.
People expect rowdiness.. that's easily written-off as "extremist leftist hippies," thrown into the pile with the WTO protesters.
A quiet atmosphere with the overwhelming feeling of mourning and pain could really hit TV viewers hard.
Especially if the crowds are as far as the eye can see.
Nothing but candles, silence, signs, and hurting people.

and 'America haters' no matter what happens. For the record, I prefer the quiet protest idea, but I'd bet on the loud, "can you hear us now America?" type protest. Squeaky wheel and all that.

Just a feeling I have. There plenty of angry people there right now and when passions are unleashed......

by playing up 9/11 in the convention. It will be a bigger mistake for him as the Wellstone thing was for us. It is so disgusting that he would do that.

What is really sad is that what happened on 9/11/01 was the best thing that could have happened to Bush but now it's payback time.
