CIA leak announcement expected Friday
ReutersReuters

Oct 27, 2005 — WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald does not plan to act in the CIA leak case on Thursday, a spokesman said, setting the stage for the prosecutor to make a last-minute announcement on indictments before the grand jury expires on Friday.

"There are no announcements expected today," said Randall Samborn, Fitzgerald's spokesman.

Fitzgerald has zeroed in on Lewis Libby, chief of staff for Vice President Dick Cheney, and Karl Rove, President George W. Bush's top political adviser. Both have been advised that they could face charges over the leak of covert CIA operative Valerie Plame's identity, lawyers in the case said.

1. Stephanie Miller just said Fitz is leasing more office space in DC
This could only mean he's expanding the investigation and will extend the GJ.

4. Not necessarily.
It could certainly mean other things. It would be nice, however, if there was an extension to further investigate the role of VP Cheney.

6. Setting up for the trials, and more investigations?
Perhaps he will hand down aone set of indictments and empanel a new GJ to look into the run up to war. Pure speculation, and I don't know if he can continue with this group after handing down indictments or will need a new one. I would have loved to be a fly on the wall when he met with Judge Hogan yesterday.

2. Of course that doesn't mean lawyers for the targets won't
announce they have reached plea agreements if they come.

Did anyone ask Samborn how long the lease is on Fitzgeralds new offices at 1401?
