What If Bush* Nominates Somebody Worse?
Instead of a unqualified wing nut what if he nominates a qualified wing nut like John Roberts?

Or a Robert Bork in a dress?

2. That's the plan, I suspect.
The Meiers nomination was a set up.

6. Filibuster....
I hope the indictments come...

They can be the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back....

I am trying to wring the hate out of my life but I so dislike this maladministration...

16. that makes no political sense. the fact Miers had to withdraw is not
only humiliating for Bush but the reason why he had to because he was facing a building insurgency from his base.... A FR Republic poll of members yesterday had FR members opposing Miers with like a 42-35 margin with the rest not yet decided. When Indepedents hate you as much Dems practically and you don't pick a fight to alienate your base and ends up with egg on your face.

Think of what this does to the whole image of Bush as a "When I say something I mean it" common man. He insisted that she'd be on the bench and he went into the fight head on and then had to retreat.

27. It makes perfect sense.
Offer up a sacrificial lamb, and it makes it all the more difficult for us to defeat the real candidate, as one has already withdrawn, and "how nitpicky can they be" will become the mantra.

3. Count on them to try to put lipstick on that pig.
Edited on Thu Oct-27-05 08:51 AM by Heaven and Earth
Then we take the nominee down for hiding their true views. Also, this will infuriate their base more, because it will still be looking for a fanfare to celebrate what they think is a triumph of their worldview. After all, that's what Bush told them his reelection was. Too bad for them, he lied. again.

4. not "what if," when he nominates someone worse . . .
but none of this should come as a surprise. all we can hope for is that they are not a complete ideologue, but someone capable of independent thought. this is probably asking too much, unfortunately.

5. I'd rather have a wing nut that I know...
Than someone I know NOTHING about, except that she's never been a judge, knows less than I do about Constitutional Law, and thinks that * is the most brilliant man she's ever met.

Who could POSSIBLY be worse?

8. Very real possibility
I am very worried that while this is definitely embarassing for Bush that he will now turn to William Kristol and the cronies and nominate the person who will ensure the Battle Royale

move sharply to the right. The democrats will have to make a stance, or else Bush will push through the most dangerous nomination he has made to any federal bench to date.

I am usually a temperate and dispassionate man but I relish this fight.....

12. NOT What if... WHEN
He will nominate a fire breathing Regressive for sure to appease his base. He needs his base now more than ever in light of the forthcoming indictments.... This withdrawl IS NOT GOOD NEWS for us.

We will fillibuster this new creature and the rethugs will unite once again and defeat the fillibuster...

BAD, BAD BAD NEWS......

We can only hope for FITZ to save us.

22. not good news at all, BUT...
we are not guaranteed a defeat if we filibuster

Dems MUST NOT break ranks in this fight. A filibuster can and should be used (if the nominee is a wingnut), not only to stop the nomination, but to start laying the groundwork for the 06 platform.

a filibuster is just running out the clock by giving speeches. there is a whole lot that the Dems need to tell the american people about what the pukes have been doing to them and how we'd do it differently.

I want him under the glare of the media lights. If anybody had a doubt that the Federalist Society is a slimy organization that will resort to anything, they'll be convinced when the info comes out in the hearing.

21. What I'd do
If I were Bush (thankfully, I've been spared that indignity), I'd get with the Gang of 14 and let them recommend a good moderate nominee with good credentials that will sail through the Senate. Let's face it, Bush needs a win...really badly.

23. IF???
The Cons may have tolerated Roberts. But they still view him as to the Left of Rehnquist. For this nomination the Christian Conservatives are demanding payback for getting * put in office. And they want a Real Conservative. Think Roy Moore, the ten commandments judge.

24. You take each nominee on his or her merits.
They want you to play the what if game. The senate Democrats need to vote according to the merits of the nominee at hand, in front of them. The nominee is either acceptable or not acceptable. Miers was unacceptable. We will see who the next vile shithead is.

26. Weakness picked Miers
I think he will pick out of fear now. I think he sees the the looming legal issues coming and will pick someone out of fear next. They say it's the Right Wing that has caused this. I think it's much deeper. I think he sees total collapse in the next few weeks.
