Since Christ Matthews is pushing Olsen so hard, this needs a separate
Edited on Thu Oct-27-05 09:07 AM by cantstandbush
thread.

Olsen should NOT be nominated and here is why:

Some of the most pressing issues about the war on terra will be coming before this SCOTUS. There is no way that Olsen could be impartial and Constitutional about any of the matters since his wife was killed in one of the 9/11 attacks.

The Dems need to look out for a major NEOCON nomination which is the reason I think the folks like Kristol and Krauthammer were so against Miers. They want someone who will tote the neocon agenda from the ruling on the bench. Believe me, these will mean some matters of peace and war disguised as other issues. The Dems should filibuster anyone with a neocon-PNAC background. Otherwise, the Pentagon will be controlling the Court, mark my words.

4. May she RIP, but she was one of the worst of the partisans and
her husband is right there with her. His nomination would be a war by the Dems. I can't see it happening.

3. That's exactly why Olsen might get the nod
That's why Miers got the nod (or at least one of the reasons); she was on the Front Lines of the War on terror (by which they mean the Bush White House). She could be counted on to vote a certain way.

I think the Miers nomination was more troubling to the religious right who want someone who will definately vote a certain way on abortion and church and state issues.

5. exactly--I wanted to PUKE seeing Tweet carrying water for the Prez
so politely and helpfully

Olson is part of the coup conspiracy (if it exists) and should be kept far away from the levers of power.

21. I think he did.
That's not necessarily a bad sign among men. It seems that the better a marriage a man has had, the MORE likely they are to get married again, and fairly quickly.

Perhaps marriage is just a better deal for men.

8. Why don't we start a "How many times has Chris Matthews been wrong" thread
I'll start it:

(1) He was wrong about using his pundit position to knock Gore down in 2000.

Who wants to be next?

10. Ted Olsen was a part of the Arkansas project.
He worked like hell to get Clinton.

Dems could go after him on that.

I doubt Bush would nominate him.

11. None of it matters...Bush nominates an extremist, we filibuster, they go
nuclear and we lose, in that order. End result? A newly minted right-wing justice and an energized Republican base.

13. I'm sorry, but the Iraq war will not support the kind of energized base
the Republicans need to win. It will go well for Dems if they stick it to Bush right now.

Edited on Thu Oct-27-05 10:10 AM by Rowdyboy
nominee that Republicans won't go nuclear and effectively abolish the filibuster? God, I wish I could be that optimistic. Much as I'd like to "stick it" to Bush right now, its pretty hard to do with only 44 of 100 senators.

So he would probably try to totally do away with elections forever, while the GOP is in control.
