Why Shouldn't we be "MAD AS HELL....and NOT Going to Take it Anymore?
Treason Gate, Rush/Drug/ Gate, Bush/ Gate, Election 2000/ Gate, Corporate Coruption/ Gate, Iraq Invasion/Gate.....and on and on and on.

So many folks seem to feel that our ANGER needs to be tempered. That we are behaving like "Freepers," and the worst of the Conservative Repugs during President Clinton's "Troubles."

Have we Dems and Progressives and Greens and other "folks longing for truth" been trashed constantly, from "idiots, i.e. the Ann Coulter/Bill O'Reilly/Tom DeLay/Gingrich folks?

Have Dems and Progressives and Greens and other folks longing for "truth and fairness and an honest/objective point of view for discussion in "OUR AIRWAVES/ MEDIA not been trashed by the MSNBC/CNN/FAUX Corporate Whores long enough where they "Tell us what we should think, and we then are supposed to decide?

Why should we worry and ponder over WHY Limbaugh turned to drugs, and that GE and Murdoch and Disney are buying our airwaves and allowed this Bush takeover to be "Praised and glorified?"

How long are WE supposed to CONTAIN our ANGER and OUTRAGE? While in the meantime, the Bushies and the Coulters and O'Reilly's and PNAC and Corporate Capitalists and Media Whores, control us and manipulate us and take our tax dollars and fight in congress and WIN to defy everything the Constitution stands for, and what America was about?

Why don't we have the RIGHT TO BE ANGRY? AND HAVE POSITIVE ANGER as opposed to NEGATIVE ANGER???

1. Focused Anger is the answer
The Nazis (Rethugs) figured this out.

Davis was recalled because of voter anger--all the anger should have been directed towards Enron, Bushco, etc., yet the Dems did not do this. We have a serious leadership vacuum in the democratic party.

2. Absolutely! Our anger needs to be directed to POSITIVE OUTCOME!
NOT, "Navel Gazing" as Skinner said when he replied about the new DU RULES!

14. Call the TOLL FREE Capitol Hill Switchboard 1 (800) 839 - 5276
THAT'S how to keep your anger focused.

Do it FIRST THING MONDAY MORNING! Demand an independent prosecutor. We will wear these schmucks down eventually.

Tell the Dems you call that you're here to provide them with "calcium deposits for their spines." I used that remark during Thursday's MoveOn Meetings-With-Your-Senator at Dianne Feinstein's local office. It resonated with her staffer and other MoveOn people.

Use the toll free number to call rethugs, too. They need to hear this more than anybody. They need to have it pushed into their faces over and over and over and over and over until they're about to go nuts. We need to be as a large, cosmic enema up their hind-quarters. We keep drilling holes in their boats, faster than they can bail water out.

3. There's a difference between BEING angry and MANIFESTING anger
Edited on Sat Oct-11-03 06:35 PM by AP
I'm angry as hell. It makes me want to go out and be really really clever about how I'm going to undermine the RW.

Clinton and Carville undermined the RW without employing anger at all. They had every reason to be angry and then never were.

I totally agree that it's time to take some very firm measures, but raising the level of anger in public discourse isn't one of those measures.

4. I think if we thought about it , we'd realize we are more angry . .
. . at our ineffective dem leadership than the pukes - at least I am.

I expect the pukes to be do-whatever-it-takes-to-win liars and dirt tricksters - because that's their job (as they see it).

But I (we) have a right to expect our leadership to stand up against them on principle and take some personal risk (like the Texas legge recently did) - rather than continually protecting their asses for the next election - i.e. playing politics.

5. I can get riled up, and it isn't pretty...
as some of my co-workers will tell you. I was the only Progressive in the shop, and through measured discussion, I have gotten people to change to Independents. I get angry when I hear the same old tired stuff about 'hating Hillary', anbd when I ask 'why', all I get is a blank stare. Then comes the anger when they try to explain it away with bush/rush/rw 'ism's'.

I have found that countering their points with facts, makes them think, eventually they mellow out when they start to think.

When I do get angry, I prefer to call it "righteous indignation"; simply because I don't want to lower myself to freepers standards. (I can be smug too).

One other thing about anger. I have come to the conclusion that when all of the miscelaneous excuses we have for getting angry, when we strip away all of the facades; we get angry because we didn't get our way. To avoid anger, we need to get our way, or understand that not everything will go our way.

Just a little philosophy I have, and I occasionally find it difficult to stick to it myself, especially around ignorant repugs.

7. I get angry about unfairness.
Edited on Sat Oct-11-03 06:47 PM by msmcghee
Especially if I feel helpless to do anything about it. I don't mind mind so much if my side loses in a fair contest. But I really hate bullies and people who trash a good system - just to get their way.

9. msmcghee, YES, it's not a FAIR Contest! That's what my anger is about!
and that's why I posted. I've internalized my anger so much, but worked so hard since I've had access, here on DU, to ways of expressing my anger: Fax,Phone, E-Mail my congresspersons, Sign "MoveOn.org" Petitions, Protesting at least 15 times AGAINS the Iraq Invasion and protesting Cheney and Asscroft with my signs when they were here in NC.

I've Phone, Faxed, e-mailed, been to "Meet Up" for Candidate, Watched ALL the DEM Debates, bought magic markers and poster board and gotten my "butt" out to all these protests, I've given $$$'s, gone to Town Meetings with my Congressional/Senate Reps, and worked for Campaigns (where they wanted us "folks") and posted my "heart out here on DU," and given to my Environmental Groups, and answered every call for "Action" when my Progressive sites asked me to, and I've done EVERYTHING to try to Bring Back Democracy to America after the Bush Coup.....and I hear people on DU wanting to have sympathy for Rush Limbaugh?

Rush made his bed.....let him lie in it! And there IS a Pun intended. Let him LIE IN IT!

12. I agree wholeheartedly...
and the GOP is disgusting and vile. They will do ANYTHING to retain power.

Don't get me wrong, there are some pretty unscrupulous dems as well, but the GOP has the lions share of ***holes.

I always attack their hypocrisy with truth. I let them get angry and act like fools. the more they spit venom, the worse they look.

6. About a little unfocused Democrat anger
A few more of us frothing at the mouth might give them a pause. I was feeling a little frothy this week.

8. You forgot to lump the Tx Repukes in with those other scumbags
We have every right to be angry and we have every right to have that anger heard. The right wing wackos run all over us because they know they can. They know we won't fight back/won't stand up to them, and when/if we do, they scream like they babies they are, so loudly that our voices are drown out. They lie, cheat, steal, change the rules mid stream, amend the laws, rig elections and they keep getting away with it. They project their character flaws onto us and we don't call them on, we just take it. They have try to demoralize, and demean our Party at every turn. Look what they did to the term Liberal. They're hypocrites of the worst kind, the Party of "Do as I say not as I do." The standard of behavior they apply to us, does not apply to them when caught in the same behavior, witness how they have condoned Rush's pill popping illegal drug addiction. Like Mike Malloy said last night on his show, the Media talking heads were interviewing doctors about Rush's addiction, when they would have been interviewing cops and attorneys had it been a Liberal. He nailed that.

It's high time we got angry, and stayed angry, if for no other reason than for self-preservation.

13. I've had to deal with those types too...
and I recant with truth, and have had my share of victories. In fact, and this is not a joke, I have NEVER lost a discussion with a RW'er.
All of their arguments are built of sand.

They cannot harass me about my military service.
No on is foolish enough to question my love of country.
I tell every repug I see, about the reality of the country being bankrupt.
I consistently bring up the 'chickenhawk' situation.
I remind people of the assaults on the environment.
I defnd the rights of women, children and everyone else consistently.
I always speak up when I see something that can be harmful.
I remind people that taxes pay for Fire Dept's, Police Dept's and our national security, as well as our roads, our air and our development.

I do this and more, much more; but so does everyone else here. It is not just something to do, it is our duty. It is a duty that has been passed on to us by past generations of Americans that have also had a great love of country, and we must not allow our country to become an 'elitist nation'.

I don't have all of the answers; hell, I don't even know what some of the questions are. What I do know, is that I will not allow our country to be overrun by enemies of freedom, whether foreign or domestic. So I will always be a voice for reason and Progress, as I know everyone else here will as well.

11. Californians were "mad as hell"
and look at what happened.

You're right. We need to find a way to intelligently deal with our anger. It is not in our best interests to just be angry. We need to focus it and work toward positive solutions.
