Fillibuster Questions:
Can the repugs do it? Will they? What did the "Gang of 14" actually do as it relates to the fillibuster and the ability to do it? Did they just agree to the rw freak judges, thinking they could use the fillibuister for future SC nominees?
I need a refresher.

Thanks:)

1. The Repugs Can Install Anyone They Want on the Court
Edited on Thu Oct-27-05 10:35 AM by AndyTiedye
If we dare to filibuster any nominee, however wacko,
they will invoke the "nuclear option".
:nuke:

They don't call it the "nuclear option" for nothing.
Once it is invoked, we no longer have a 2-party system.

The "Gang of 14" merely negotiated our surrender.

3. Dems have a nuclear option response.
If Repugs pull the trigger on the nuclear option, that will be the end of governing by consent in the Senate. All votes will be henceforth be roll call votes. The business of the Senate will then require all Senators to remain on the floor while vote after vote will require their presense. The Repugs will have to decide whether they really want to change the way that the Senate has done business for a very long time. The Dems will make sure that the Senate really does change. With the end of the filibuster and cooperation by the majority, the Dems will end cooperation by the minority.

It won't be pretty, but it will restore some of the balance back to the chamber.

4. That Would Last Until They Change The Rules Again
and there is nothing we could do to prevent them from changing the
Senate rules to be the same as they are in the House, where we are
shut out of everything.
