Jeb Bush on relief efforts: "I've raised the bar probably too high"
That's what you get for being an arrogant prick...

http://www.bradenton.com/mld/bradenton/news/local/states/florida/sarasota_county/sarasota/13014322.htm

Florida disaster response officials thought their vast experience with hurricanes meant they could design an effective plan to distribute water, ice and other supplies only hours after Hurricane Wilma's winds subsided. It didn't pan out as they intended.

As Wilma approached last week, Florida officials repeatedly insisted they were ready and assured they would avoid the chaos that followed Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana. Gov. Jeb Bush, a Republican who is President Bush's brother, said his state had a "unified command" that would contrast with the sluggish state and federal response in Louisiana.

The goal, virtually unprecedented in U.S. disasters, was to speed relief supplies to people within 24 hours of Wilma's landfall. Officials now say that schedule was wildly optimistic and probably contributed to a number of other problems in getting assistance to long, angry lines of people.

"I've raised the bar probably, maybe, too high, I don't know," Bush said Tuesday. "We're going to find out."

3. Oh, for God's sake. It's like those questions for a job application
What are your flaws? "I'm a workaholic! I won't go home!"

I would like to know exactly what comprises this responsibility burden JEB and * have claimed. They both say they will take the blame, but what comes of it?

5. I also wonder whether there may not be some backlash, near or mid-term,
... due to last year's overcompensation during the Presidential election. Can't wait to hear victims of Wilma griping about compensation and relief relative to last year's levels.

6. Having just had my power restored today from Wilma
and being a lifelong Jeb-hater, I have to say: there's a reason they tell you to get hurricane supplies. You're gonna need 'em for at least 24-48 hours so everyone can get in place. The roads have to be cleared, routes have to be planned based on the available roads.

It's always been that you stock up in June, and replenish as needed. Also, 24 hours after the storm, the cities and Red Cross were handing out ice and water. Water that Dade didn't need, btw, because the water was fine everywhere but Miami Beach. I still don't understand that.

By the second full day, FEMA was here, the red tape had cleared, and at least in Miami-Dade, distribution was okay. Each day more and more have their power restored.

Having had nothing to watch but local news on a one-inch TV for four days, I can tell you that the frustration is just beginning, the longer more people go without power, and the longer it takes for more gas stations to get power, the crankier everyone's going to get. It's a good thing the weather's beautiful.

7. New Orleans is looking more like the norm when a big city gets hit
than the odd city out. Just imagine a nuclear accident or bomb somewhere. HOw much do we pay for all the government protection, safety, and preparedness each year? * has destroyed everything.

There was some official on a news channel tonight saying - very madly - that the only problems are electricity and gas. If they had those up and running there would be no problems. People were without electricity for months last year. There were no problems getting ice and water and food. If fact * was here the second day handing out stuff. (It seems like it - my electricity was off a lot last year).
