Miers withdrew so she could be counsel to Bush.
Indictments ahead, who knows where the investigation could lead. Bush knows. He feels a need to have her at his side. He may be feeling like he has something to hide.

Also, he didn't want to get into too much of the paperwork involving her work with him because it may implicate him.

Yep.

1. A withdrawal will not open up the door
to see her work product while counseling *bush. Dean was asking repeatedly for *bush to wave Executive privilege so that all could be seen. Now, we may of been able to collect more evidence to the pretense to war and *bush's National Guard cover-up facts. Dan Rather lost his job because he tried to tell the truth!

This is the real reason they backed down.......

3. Yep, all kinds of evidence.
I think it is a combination. His possible involvement in the leak case might also be a factor.

If she was kept in as nominee, I am sure some of that paperwork would have to be released to the Judiciary committee. Sure Bush didn't want that.

6. I agree but they had until November 7 to do that.
I think the op has a point. Couple that with Condi rushing back from Canada yesterday and I have a :tinfoilhat:

2. He needs her at White House plus needs his right wing base behind him
Edited on Thu Oct-27-05 07:06 PM by wishlist
He has always been very dependent on his enablers including Harriet, Condi, Karen Hughes and Rove. If Rove is indicted and Condi and Karen are busy with other duties, he desperately needs Harriet to prop him up.

She took the easy road since hearings were certain to be tortuous and incredibly difficult for her as well as potentially opening up a can of worms.

4. I don't know how much the right wing base will stick to him, now.
At least in congress and the Senate, I think they want to distance themselves from the administration. Really, I am sure they have proverbial blood on their hands, but they don't want it to appear that way for the 2006 elections.

Rove was THE biggest enabler, it will be interesting to see what will go on if he resigns, or Bush fires him. He will need Harriet to prop him up, that is for sure.

a co-conspirator.

8. I would like to think that some of the other Supremes
might have discreetly indicated that they would expect Miers to recuse herself on issues involving the Administration or share the details of her exposure to the issue with the court. This woulkd likely not be a good thing either way for the BFEE.

But yours might be more plausible.

18. If that's the best he can get....
... in a lawyer, he might be in trouble. Is there any evidence to suggest that Miers is exceptional in any way?

Except an exceptionaly adept ass-kisser - I'll grant that :)
