--"status" implies the investigations are not finished. Something like "results" or "conclusions" might also have been used if his investigation was finished.
--he speaks in the plural about "criminal investigations." This might have been assumed all along, but this suggests he hasn't been investigating just the one crime of the outing of Plame.
