5. "Strategy for Victory" is the banner the strategy....like the one on
in the background that day he got to dress up in the flight suit and prance around...the "Mission Accomplished" banner.

People are complaining there is no strategy (rightfully) so his answer is to get a banner?

52. Where were you when
Where were you when Kenneth Starr was dragging Clinton through the mud?

Clinton was accused of murder, drug trafficking, the White-Water non-scandal, rape and then impeached for lying under oath. Bush has gotten away unscathed and Scooter is the cute little scape-goat. I am no fan of the Clinton's either but I'd be elated to have Bubba back.

I hope like hell that the moron, liar is feeling something, anything. -- Apparently he doesn't feel the pain of the mothers who cry for their dead and wounded children all due to his pack of lies. He was too big of a chicken hawk to walk out of his door in Crawford to explain why Cindy's son Casey is in a cold, dirty grave.

Rat bastards.

29. Wait a sec, now, in fairness to that servicemember
If you are on a military base, and in a policing capacity, you have got to do what you have got to do. MP's or MAA's will arrest shoplifters in the exchange, too, or haul away a kid swiping candy bars in the commissary.

If that guy was charged with ensuring good order and discipline during the monkey's speech, he has got to follow his orders.

That said, I am delighted that the protester made his point. And he made it in a NO DISSENT ZONE, too!!!! I have a feeling there were plenty of people in the audience under "mandatory attendance" orders who secretly agreed with the guy.

47. Depending on the venue, and the Secret Security requirements,
perhaps not.

I know, from experience, that my security personnel were obligated to strip down, wear fatigues, no duty belts, no weapons, no covers, no nada, when service secretaries and SECDEFS were about. They essential were a living wall, nothing more. The personal security detail for the bigwig does all of the heavy lifting.

I imagine the rules are equally, if not more onerous, when the Monkey visits. The few presidential visits I ever was (very peripherally) involved with, I never had to deal with the security issues--it was an "other nation" thing run by State and the host nation.

It could also be that this kid is a wrench bender or a keyboard pounder, tasked to maintain a leadership position over a sector of the auditorium--for this event, only.

A patriot crashes the party
Published October 29 2005
The most patriotic element of George Bush's speech in Norfolk on Friday morning wasn't the flags on the big "Strategy for Victory" sign behind the podium.

It wasn't the backdrop bleachers artfully decorated with warm bodies in military uniforms.

It was the moment early on when a man stood up in Chrysler Hall, yanked open his shirt to expose his "Dump Bush" T-shirt in full view of shocked members of Pat Robertson's Christian Broadcasting Network seated nearby and cried, "War is terrorism! Torture is terrorism!" before he was hustled out by security people.

"That was me," says Tom Palumbo, anti-war activist and, now, presidential party-crasher. "I think maybe he heard me. I know he looked befuddled."

So ... Bush's cone of silence can be cracked.

An "invitation-only," meticulously scripted, rah-rah presidential appearance can be infiltrated by a lone punman.....

32. It was likely a closed audience
You are there, in essence, by invitation, and your invitation can be revoked. You need ID to get in the gate, a ticket to get in the auditorium.

Look on the bright side--a protest occurred in a venue where one has NEVER occurred before. Monkey LOVES to speak before safe, mute military audiences, who will have their leave revoked if they fail to behave in the appropriate fashion while listening to their monkey in chief. Nothing like coercion to provoke the "appropriate" response.

Now Monkey knows he is not safe, even behind the sturdy gates of a military installation. All of us old fuckers with retired ID cards are like a fifth column!!!!!!!

51. NO, Not at all. You were YELLING in your subject line, crying out, as it
were, for an explanation.

It stands to reason that someone who had to go through base security to get on the installation, get directions to the venue if he were unfamiliar with the facility, present a ticket at the door and be screened by SS, would not be openly wearing that sort of shirt.

It's plain, pure logic.

See my post above. When SECDEF and service secretaries visited, we were instructed to lock it all up in the armory, and let the PSD do the work. No ammo, not even a duty belt and stick.

That guy could just be a spectator, or he could be some clown assigned additional duty to "maintain order" in his row/sector.

received their 'tickets' through "business leaders" who were given the tickets by the Norfolk Chamber of Commerce, the sponsor for the event.

Now, what the Chamber's doing sponsoring speeches about terrorism, is not clear to me. That's not their turf.

38. I made eye contact with Bush in early 2003.
I was late to my job in Downtown Indianapolis. I was walking from the parking garage to the office and I had to cross Illinois street which runs north from downtown. There was a huge crowd and police everywhere. People told me Bush was in town and would be driving down the street any second. The police would not allow me to cross the street until the motorcade passed. Since I was already late to work, I was more than a little annoyed.

Along comes the motorcade and Bush was in the back seat of a black car smiling and waving at everyone. He was in Indiana - a very red state - so I'm sure he felt the love. He made eye contact with me and waved. I had three reactions:

1) First I was flattered that he made eye contact with me. Hey, I'm a hick from Indiana and someone famous noticed me.

2) Followed in a nano-second by a compelling desire to stick up my middle finger. I HATED Bush!!

3) Followed by paranoia that kept me from sticking up my middle finger. I was surrounded by police and didn't want to be interrogated by the Secret Service.

4) Followed by humiliation at my cowardice as I watched the limo drive by and knew he thought I was another adoring "fan."

Because I was such a coward, I have all the more respect for Cindy Sheehan and everyone who protested at Crawford. I was actually in Texas within a few hours drive of the protesters, but, again I was afraid to get on the wrong list and didn't join in.

So... these people have guts way beyond what I have and I applaud them!

I'll bet a lot of people would've reacted similarly as to how you did, had they made direct eye contact with the creep. It's probably not quite as easy to do what we feel like doing (flipping the bird) when you're staring the "president" right in the face like that. I don't think you acted cowardly or differently than many of us would have. I think you acted with restraint and respect...not that he deserves respect or anything, but you know what I mean.
