Libby's going to fall on the sword...
If bush pardons him...all hell will break loose. I believe that.

1. Absolutely for this and other crimes, he will
take the responsibility of everything to keep the dirt off of Cheney. He will be falling a lot on his sword, they have done a lot of illegal crap...

2. If he faces 25-30 years in prison,
he's gonna think long and hard about whether he wants to miss his wife and kids for the next three decades.

9. Bush is gonna think LONG AND HARD about pardon.
If this is just the tip of the iceberg, and worse crimes are revealed, a pardon will ruin any shred of credibility he has left. It would be a "hugh" PR negative for him.

18. Bush NEVER thinks long and hard about anything
He can do whatever he damn pleases.

He just does it. He has.

5. Can't pardon him till he's convicted
In the meantime, America very much needs to examine the evidence.

8. If Libby pleads guilty, he'd avoid trial, wouldn't he?
And couldn't Bush pardon him shortly thereafter?

13. A president can
pardon someone not only before they are convicted, but even before they are indicted. Think of Ford and Nixon.

14. You're right. Caspar Weinberger was pardoned DAYS before his trial.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if Bush pardoned Libby and took the political heat for it.

It would be better politically for Bush to pardon than to endure a trial, where so much more may come out.

16. While he "can" ....
right now he can't afford to. He would put himself into the middle of the scandal. He has to move himself to the edges now. The chances of a pardon are small, though because Bush is dull-witted and stubborn, it is always possible.

22. H2O has the best info on this stuff, but I wouldn't put anything past Bush
This is all about his war.

Libby is indicted because they were trying to preserve the myth about their war.

I don't think they'll stop there.

6. The indictments are big ....
but what is going on beneath the surface is bigger. Even without a pardon, all hell is about to break loose.

Karl not being indicted today is actually the more significant story. The republicans with IQs under 80 may view it as a victory of sorts. But it's not.

10. Agreed. Unless I'm very much mistaken, Fitzgerald's going to
get himself a fresh grand jury and keep digging. Extremely bad news for the White House.

15. But that doesn't
stop the grand jury investigation. More, to plead guilty, Libby would have to agree to testify honestly in all further investigations. There is no simple way for Scooter to fall on the sword.

12. Exactly!
In a large investigation, would you rather be the first person indicted or the last?
