Libby could serve 35 years!!
Edited on Fri Oct-28-05 12:05 PM by berni_mccoy
If he's found guilty on all five charges:

2 Perjury
2 Making false statements
1 Obstruction

Each count of perjury and obstruction carries a max 5 years consecutive under Title 18 of U.S. Code of Law. The making false statements carries 10 years max and potentially a $1,000,000 fine for each count.

Libby's going away for a long time if he's found guilty.

On edit: corrected the sentencing for Makeing False Statements.

As long as he remains loyal, Bush will pardon him.

8. That's a big if... (Libby's loyalty)
He will roll on Cheney at the last minute.

Bush won't pardon him. Bush M.O. is to WAIT until the VERY LAST MINUTE...(when Libby would go to jail or on failure to appeal). No need to pardon unless absolutely necessary.

Plus Bush will want to hold that over Libby as leverage.

3. That's what I was just mentioning in another thread
A person facing that amount of time in prison would be more likely to begin telling the truth. They may go easier on him if he were to come clean.

Fitzgerald is a wise man.

13. 35 *is* a max sentence...
but I'm not sure what happens with multiple counts like this...

If he's found guilty of all charges... Judge (or jury) may not take it so lightly... he might get the max.

After all, this is one of the most serious obstruction cases in the history of the U.S. The max sentences would be warrented.

15. Did you win or lose your bet with Walt?
And I think it will be more than 18 months UNLESS he give's up Cheney (that is, he says Cheney ordered the attack on Wilson).

Wanna make a wager? :-P
