Do The Rs Realize That Their Very Party Hangs In The Balance?
Because they're doing a pretty lousy job of damage control by continuing to smear Wilson and poo-poo Libby's indictment like it's no big deal. Do they realize that it's *bad* for them that the investigation part of the process is nearly over? Do they realize that what that means is that Fitz has all the info he'll ever need to send 'em away for a good long time? Do they realize that in our criminal justice system investigations aren't ongoing when a TRIAL finally starts, and that a trial is the NEXT step in the process?

God, they're idiots. America has seen the screen pulled away from these lying, holier-than-thou, unpatriotic, treasonous knuckle draggers, and the best that they can do is engage in the same lying and smearing that got 'em in trouble in the first place?!

Plamegate has ended the republican party as we know it.

Let me repeat that:

Plamegate has ended the republican party as we know it.

They must change to their very core or they are destined for a quick trip to the dustbin of history.

1. They are making sure to demonstrate to the jury pool exactly
how they did the dirty deeds. WTF could they be thinking? They'll be in the wilderness for 40 years. Buh-bye.

3. Don't be so confident there was this same sort of optimism after Watergate
And six years later Reagan and the Republicans were riding high.

What I find more of a cause for optimism is the extreme anger that the religious right is displaying over the Meiers pick and Bush's lack of appeasing them. I think that right there has more possiblity of bringing about the demise of the Republican party than any scandal or "-gate".

The worst that a criminal scandal can do is bring about a temporary setback(and that in itself is cause for joy). But is the discontent of a major faction of their coalition that holds the real potential for laying low the party for good.

4. But Watergate galvanized the Rs which led to the disaster
that was Reagan. The Rs are going in the opposite direction now. And if Carter hadn't had the hostage crisis - and if Reagan hadn't made a deal with the Iarnians to keep the hostages through the election - Carter would have won.

We're in different times.

6. Sorry, but history isn't on our side of this
Look, I hate to burst your bubble, but no criminal scandal or "-gate" has ever brought down an entire party. Watergate, Teapot Dome, Iran Contra, Monica, none of these or any of the other assorted scandals throughout our history has ever brought down a party, and this one won't either. At best it will deal the party a temporary setback. At worst it will be glossed over and this misadministration will continue its wicked ways.

I know that's a real bummer, but it is better to be bummed now than to have your hopes built up beyond all reason only to be crushed by reality later.
