Just got done watching Fitzgerald's press conference
All I can say is, Libby is F U C K E D. This, IMHO, is not over. Not by a long shot. Fitzgerald is a prosecutor's prosecutor. He is the real deal. There will be more to come. Heads will roll. Libby will flip like a $2 hooker now that he is corralled. Mark my words. More to come.

1. It's Cheney.
That's the ultimate target. Fitzgerald did not indict Rove because at the 11th hour he threw over Cheney to save his ass. He spilled the beans about Cheney ordering the whole thing. Bet on it. And yes, more to come.

What Should We Expect Now that Fitzgerald Has Announced the Indictment of Lewis "Scooter" Libby? By Elizabeth de la Vega

<snip>

<snip>
We should not expect a final resolution any time soon. Complex cases usually take years to proceed through the courts. In addition, the indictment released today describes a chronology of close to two years and a complicated set of facts. Obviously, Fitzgerald is taking a "big picture" approach to this case. This mirrors his approach to previous cases. In December 2003, for example, Fitzgerald announced the indictment of former Illinois Governor George Ryan on corruption charges in Operation Safe Road, which began in 1998. In that year, the investigation of a fatal accident revealed that truckers were purchasing commercial licenses from state officials. Indictments were announced in stages, culminating in the indictment of Ryan, who was the 66th defendant in the case. In the Libby case, the allegations suggest he was merely one of many officials -- including an unnamed Under Secretary of State and "Official A," a Senior White House Official -- who were involved in revealing classified information about Joseph Wilson's wife Valerie Plame. No other individuals are named as defendants, and they should not be considered so at this point, but the complexity of the indictment suggests that the investigation may follow a pattern similar to that used by Fitzgerald in the Illinois corruption case.

We should not expect to hear much more from Fitzgerald. The Special Counsel has been widely admired, and sometimes criticized, for his "tight-lipped" approach and "leak-free" grand jury investigation. But that, folks, is how it's supposed to be. Federal prosecutors are required to maintain grand jury secrecy. If they don't do that, they not only jeopardize their investigations, they could lose their jobs and/or be charged with a crime. The public has come to expect leaks from grand jury investigations because Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr, who was not a federal prosecutor, ignored secrecy rules during the investigation of President Clinton (and got away with it). Even after indictment, Department of Justice (DOJ) press guidelines permit release of only limited facts about the defendant, the charges against him, and court documents or testimony that may become public during the prosecution. Don't hold your breath waiting for Fitzgerald to explain evidence not alleged in the indictment; nor will he appear on talk shows to debate defense representatives.

3. What do you think about new charges being handed up.
Conspiracy! Didn't you think after hearing Fitz for an hour, that it's awfully strange that he didn't level conspiracy charges?

My reading is that he didn't because he was only ready to move on Libby and charging him with conspiracy would have been tipped his hand on the rest of the charges. One cannot be a conspiracy of one.

This also gives Fitz an incredible amount of leverage on Libby because if he's a fellow conspirator, he can hold that charge against him in any deal he wants to make.

This is what is hanging over Rove, and on others. Fitz may have set the trap and is sitting waiting to spring it, or he may have them by the short hairs already, but needs time to present it to the grand jury to get indictments.

Today's action may have been required by the fact that this grand jury was being dismissed. Rather than lose all this headway, he went with the charges he had completed, holding back everything else for the next grand jury.

Nobody on the media sees it that way. Am I all out of wack?

5. I love the way Fitzgerald handled himself today.
I will be willing to bet that Libby will flip. He's looking at prison time, and he's nailed to the wall. Fitzgerald has more up his sleeve, and will stop at nothing to get to a fair resolution. He's a wonderful prosecutor.

12. I've wondered if "Official A" aka Rove might be able to provide some
insight into an orchestrated, coordinated conspiracy to leak Plame's identity. It only takes two to make a conspiracy, but in reality there had to be more unless these crazy kids just decided to put on a leakfest all on their own.

Or they could have conspired to obstruct justice or commit perjury?

If Rove was completely in the clear and not still in play I'd figure he'd be named rather than hidden behind a letter A.

Gotta figure Rove's is still wriggling and looking to make a deal if he can get one. What info does he have to deal?

He sure looked relieved this morning, but I'm thinking maybe he's just been tagged and released back into the wild for the time being. For collection later.

13. I've wondered if Rove and Bush decided Rove would
sing in an effort to protect themselves and sell Cheney and Libby down the river.
