I wonder what Tim Russert is thinking now?
Now that he read the indictment stating that Scooter Libby tried to pin the whole thing on him, setting him up for violations of the law and jail time. I don't think I've ever seen anything like this before, a member of an administration trying to set up reporter for a crime. Now, presumably he'll be testifying at Libby's future trial.

Geez.. Tim spent so many months on MTP shilling for the Administration; asking the Republicans soft questions, spinning their talking points, having unbalanced Conservative-leaning guest panels, and this is what he gets for his troubles? tsk tsk... :nopity:

3. I'll never forget his slobberfest with Condi.
I swear to God, half that interview was him repeatedly asking if she'll run in 2008. It literally went like this:

- "Are you running in 2008?"
- "No, I'm not."
- "Are you sure?"
- "Positive."
- "Will you run?"
- "No."

That crap went on for a good five minutes, no joke.

10.  I saw that replayed on Letterman, hilarious!
The haranging for an answer was almost like he was representing some imaginary grassroots movement of citizens wanting Condalizard to be drafted for '08.

4. He's gonna have to testify at trial
He's probably shitting his pants right now thinking about what's going to happen to his credibility with his repub buds once he gets on the stand and contradicts scooter's story. I bet we don't see any more 1 hour cheney BJ's on press the meat for a long time if ever. And if I was timmy I'd avoid flying in small airplanes. Couldn't happen to a nicer sycophantic asswipe.

12. Russert is thinking about staying out of small airplanes
and other such precautions since they RW will likely put a target on his head. These people stole 2 elections for the president of the US. Do you think they will let something like this get in their way? The biggest mistake we can make is to underestimate how treacherous these people are and that we have the law on our side.

15.  It's just amazing the stupidity of his whole defense..
You'd think that if Libby was so desparate to cover up his conspiracy and had to throw a journalist out to the wolves he'd at least make up his story about speaking to Molly Ivans or someone like her instead of one of their own shills that they're gonna need down the line, hee hee.

14. Last night I heard someone say on MSNBC
that the defense was going to be. . ."who do you trust--a "trusted" White House official or this lying piece of media scum?" Cooper & Russert both better be prepared to get slimed and slimed in a big way. The defense is going to be to call the integrity of the media into question and given that Russert has whored with the best of them--he's fucked. Oh well, little Timmy shouldn't have sucked GOP ass quite as much as he did. I'm thinking he's going to regret it!

16. He wasn't setting up Russert for jail time
It would not have been against the law for Russert to have told Scooter Plame's identity. It would have been illegal for Russert to lie in his deposition. However, why would he lie that he didn't tell Scooter if it wasn't against the law for him to tell Scooter. It's very unlikely that the prosecutor would have believed Libby and then prosecuted Russert for perjury over the discrepencies in their testimony, even if the prosecutor were honestly unsure of who was lying, or if he believed Scooter. Russert had no motivation to lie.

I think the implication for Russert is that he should be worried that his credibility as a journalist is threatened. He should be worried that people would wonder why Scooter seemed so comfortable relying on JOURNALISTS to lie for him. Although I doubt they all sat down together to decide how it would go, it does seem like Scooter was hoping that the reporters would say that they heard rumors around town (can't remember where they started) and told Libby about them.

17.  You make some good points..
I agree that he should be worried that his credibility as a journalist is threatened, and about people wondering just how entangled he is with this administration. E specially since, as Arianna Huffington has pointed out so many times how he's been covering this story without mentioning to his audience his involvement in it. I think NBC ought to put him on indefinite leave until this is over, or at least take him off assignments that have to do with reporting and/or discussions about this investigation.

As for the possible charges Tim could have faced, certainly perjury, but I don't have extensive knowledge about these laws to say for certain that he could not have been charged with trafficking in classified information.

18. I wonder what his colleagues (Russert's) think now knowing that
he met with Scoo-Scoo-Scooter to take complaints about reports who worked for his network.

Wonder how many times he met with the administration to take complaints? What did he do with them? Did any of his tittle-tattle cause someone to be fired?

19. Good question.. I'll bet he was hearing complaints about David Gregory..
who is an ace reporter, and just about the only one working for that network who has any balls. Yesterday Randi Rhodes replayed parts of Ari Fleisher's last press conference- which know we know took place on the day after Scooter Libby discussed Plame's status with him over lunch. Gregory was asking a series of very tough questions about the question of whether or not the admin was wrong on Yellow Cake found in Niger, and Ari was squirming.

25. Yes. It was a show on which Joseph Wilson was a guest.
I don't think it was Wilson's first time, but my memory could be wrong on that. But, immediately after introducing Wilson and before beginning the actual interview, Olbermann brandished some papers before the camera, and said those were emails from the White House, in which someone he didn't name attempted, I think, three times to contact him about Joe Wilson's then-upcoming appearance. He even read the lead on them, out loud. I think it was: "I understand you're going to have former ambassador Joseph Wilson as a guest on your show. Please call me."

BTW, Olbermann added that he did NOT return the call. GOOD for him!!! He saw through this, recognizing it as the manipulation attempt that it was. He's probably the ONLY one on the receiving end of White House butt-in-ski efforts who did not respond or react in appropriate lapdog style. Just another reason why I LOVE Keith Olbermann. He and Jon Stewart are the best there is on the air.

29. My understanding is that Lilbby was complaining about Chris Matthews.
Remember, for all his shortcomings, Tweety was against going into Iraq. He muted his criticism on Hardball, but wrote several columns strongly opposed to the invasion of Iraq. Russert admitted last night on his CNBC program that he called the head of programming at MSNBC to pass along Libby's criticisms. Russert didn't say it was about Chris Matthews, but I've heard that elsewhere.

24. What you get when you make a pact with the devil ...
My guess:
The truth about the exchange between Timmy and Libby lies somewhere in the middle.

I can see Potato Head eagerly revealing his little nugget of information about the Wilsons; but I can also see Scooter sticking the knife in Tim's back.

Make no mistake, Russert is a slimeball from hell.

26. I wonder if he still has his Bush Cheney pin
I'm sure Al Gore got a kick out of hearing Tim Russert was being named in this scandal. To tell you the truth, I wasn't surprised nor did I fee sorry for the POS. He wanted to be a Republican, partisan hack and they reward him with this type of attention

I'm sorry, but I will never forget that story where Russert was wearing a Bush Cheney button under his coat and so proudly showed it off to our fearless leader, all the while snubbing Gore. I say what comes around goes around. It wasn't the snub that got me but the blatant disrespect he showed the Vice President and this asshole claims to be a journalist. I don't know what Al Gore ever done to Time Russert, but I can tell you,Russert wasn't the one to hand Gore any special favors. So I give Russert this:nopity: on the other hand, I'm sure his ratings are going to be off the roof this Sunday.
