Watch the spin, please - Obstruction of Justice
Edited on Sat Oct-29-05 11:12 AM by Cerridwen
I notice more and more editorials, press articles and talking heads on corporate media channels are saying libby was indicted for lying. Their response is then, "Well, Clinton lied, too." (straw man)

Count one of the indictment against libby is obstruction of justice - the method he used to obstruct justice is lying.

This is not about lying - this is about obstructing a federal investigation into whether or not our national security was compromised, in what manner, by whom, and why. I also note some corporate media shills are trying to made out that it's a complex issue - it is not complex at all. Did this administration compromise the national security of the United States of America?

To use Patrick Fitzgerald's baseball analogy, libby is/was the sand in the umpire's face. The indictment is Fitzgerald removing the sand so that he can ascertain the play, i.e., continue the investigation with unobstructed vision.

The indictment was for obstruction of justice. Say it, repeat it, lather, rinse, repeat.

My .02

edited to add: I'm saying we need to be vigilant and correct the spin when and where able; not that we're spinning it this way.

1. Let them talk...
Edited on Sat Oct-29-05 10:53 AM by Lost-in-FL
The average person, who do not watch the news or don't care about politics will only remember 3 things: DeLay's, Fritz and now Libby's indictments. That is ALL that makes me happy. It does not matter if they close the case or if they get to only pay a fine and go home what matters to me is that GOP will always be equal to corruption if front of their eyes. And if someone dare to looking back at Clinton's impeach proceedings they will see how ridiculous that was compared to the treat the GOP represents today.

2. When repuke talking bobble heads tell me this
I respond that the lying that Clinton was about a personal matter that most people will agree had nothing to do with foreign or domestic policy. The nation was not put at risk because of his adult decisions to engage in sexual relationships with someone other than his wife. Whereas, the * cabal has engaged in lies, media manipulation and threatening actions to impose their warped belief system on others which has led to thousands and thousands of deaths and we are no safer than we were pre-9/11. In fact, I posit we are in more danger.

4. I agree, however...
Wouldn't the absence of lying amongst leaders to citizens be one high ideal of a perfectly 'just' society?

6. Yeah, wouldn't that be an interesting innovation?
Clinton has plenty to answer for. No, his case did not have the gravity of Plamegate. But his lies give the GOP some cover for their cover-up in this case.

5. Here's another talking point that's been all the rage on the Cable news...
"Libby/Rove are involved in so many projects, that they simply don't remember who they've talked to or what they said." It's the MOST bullshit excuse I've heard. Like we're all supposed to believe that someone with the intellegence of a Karl Rove or a Scooter Libby doesn't have the mental capacity to keep a the name of a CIA Agent secret because they are just too damn busy and work such long hours?? Why give them security clearence at all?? They're obviously too oblivious to the vulnerability of our national security to have access to this information? I can't beleive that they're trying to spin this into a "Victim" situation... although I shouldn't be surprised. This administration always prefers to pass themselves off as simply incompetent when the public starts to question they're deviance.

8. It was very easy to see this coming
There is a very good article titled, "Begala: Thank God there were no blow jobs. They really are Better People." on the DU home page right now. Here's a link to it:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x5206945

I bookmarked this for future reference, when some right wing zombie sends me an email to claim that this is no worse than the Clinton witch hunt (still open and costing $1M a year, BTW). This article can save us some time if we decide to refute these inevitable assertions. Importantly, we are reminded of the crimes committed during the tenures of Tricky Dick, Saint Ronnie of Reagan, and King George I. And we haven't spent $80M and a decade to bring the GOP's transgressions to light - so far.
