Cowardly GOP forgets Joe Wilson in Baghdad with a noose around his neck
Joe Wilson is guilty of one thing guaranteed to drive the Right nuts: physical courage. In their attempt to trash him, they'd like us to forget his service, for which he was strongly commended by Poppy, in Baghdad in the run-up to the first Gulf War.

BBC: Profile: Joseph Wilson

Wilson first defied Saddam Hussein, then George W Bush

Ambassador Joseph Wilson had already earned a footnote in history before his wife was revealed as a CIA agent, prompting a furious political storm in Washington.

As acting ambassador to Iraq in the run-up to the first Gulf War, he was the last US diplomat to meet with Saddam Hussein, in 1991.

He very publicly defied the Iraqi strongman by giving refuge to more than 100 US citizens at the embassy and in the homes of US diplomats - at a time when Saddam Hussein was threatening to execute anyone who harboured foreigners.

He then addressed journalists wearing a hangman's noose instead of a necktie.

He later told the Washington Post newspaper that the message to Saddam Hussein was: "If you want to execute me, I'll bring my own (expletive) rope."...

5. Who originally made Wilson the ambassador to Iraq? Bush Sr.?
That's one of the ambassadorships that actually mattered. Not just a cushy job for a close friend.

7. This is what pisses me off. The media, especially TV, tells the
public very little about WIlsons background, maybe one or two sentences indicating that he was an ambassador. I'd love to see a short expose on his life so people could get a real perspective of who he is, what he has done and what he stands for. Then one could compare that to those who are now attacking him.

15. 60 minutes
Wilson's on 60 minutes tomorrow, maybe they'll mention something.

That would be a good way, they get more viewers than any other news type show.

17. He is in "Live from Baghdad"!
The book by CNN producer Robert Wiener and if I remember right also in the HBO movie with the same name. I already liked him when I read Wiener's book long before the Plame affair. And I definitely have to watch the movie again!

22. When They Can't Trash The Message, They Trash The Messenger
That's their M.O. They could not refute Wilson's findings, so they went after his wife. They're bullies. They trash people with their enormous media power.

23. How do we go about ending the era of character assassinations?
I am so damned sick of it because it deters from honorable and democratic interests.

Why isn't the right-wing shamed for their destructive, divisive, manipulative behavior? Their party of deceit generates corruption, which disrupts democracy and exploits America's people. They should be crushed for such abuses.

If people knew about it, they would be less inclined to believe the propaganda.

26. I'm not surprised you didn't know. That's the problem, isn't it?
Wilson's been in the news so much, but the press seems to be interested mostly in tearing him down. This recent article, you probably noted, was from a British newspaper.
