It has to be fully confirmed but you should read it. If all of these stories that TPM and TWM have been relaying are true... wow. But like the post says, take it with a grain of salt. It is not known how reliable this information coming out of Italy is through La Republica.

Here is the latest post on this:

The Washington Monthly: Political Animal (blog)

MORE FROM LA REPUBBLICA....I don't really know what to make of this, but this week La Repubblica is running yet another 3-part series about the origins of the Iraq war. Via Nur al-Cubicle, here's an excerpt from Part 1. Note that SISMI is Italian intelligence, and Pollari is Nicolò Pollari, the head of SISMI:

The story of Italian military intervention in Iraq begins when the resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, Michael Ledeen, sponsored by Defense Minister Antonio Martin, debarks in Rome with Pentagon men in tow to meet a handful of “Iranian exiles.” The meeting is organized by SISMI in an agency “safe house” near Piazza di Spagna (however other sources told us it was a reserved room in the Parco dei Principi Hotel).

Twenty men are gathered around a large table, covered by maps of Iraq, Iran and Syria. Those who count are Lawrence Franklin and Harold Rhode of the Office of Special Plans, Michael Ledeen of the AIE, a SISMI station chief accompanied by his assistant (the first is a balding man between 46 and 48 years of age; the second is younger, around 38, with braces on his teeth), and some mysterious Iranians.

(...)

....The bogus Italian dossier on the Niger uranium turns up also — and we don’t know exactly why — because Chalabi is in possession of it.

1. MSNBC just did a segment on the forgeries
In Olbermann's hour, but he wasn't there. I didn't hear anything particularly new or startling but was startled to see the topic on cable MSM.

Even more interestingly, the person talking about it was former CIA and is now the editor of "American Conservative." There attitude and tone was much in keeping with the talk of the left. That the leak is explained by their need to keep the lid on all the lies that led us to war.

But isn't it odd that this turns up on MSNBC when it suddenly appears in a conservative magazine? Certainly, this is not the first they've heard of this story. But it may be one of the first times they've done such an in-depth piece. Could it be that they finally decided it was safe to do it because they could cite a conservative journal?

3. I think the REAL ("paleo") conservatives would like nothing better
than to be the ones to drive the stake thru the Neocon monster heart.

And I for one would love to see it.

I hope that SOB fries for his crimes.
