Why do you think an innocent man went judge shopping? (DeLay)
Edited on Tue Nov-01-05 05:04 PM by goodboy
just askin'

also: If he can't get a fair trial because the judge is a Dem, how can he get a fair trial because the judge is a repuke? Same precedent isn't it? Conflict of interest?

2. Easy, he's guilty as sin.
I'm not sure he's going to get what he expects no matter what judge he ends up with. Now if he gets what he deserves is another matter...

9. Because that is his lawyer's job.
Remember, at this point, DeLay has ALL the legal rights that any defendent has. And his lawyer's job is to do everything he can to get his client off. That means that his lawyer is supposed to try judge challenges, try for changes of venue, challenge evidence, challenge jury members - all of that.

What do you think DeLay's lawyer is supposed to do - hand DeLay over gift wrapped?

So the judge shopping, venue shopping, and later the jury challenges mean absolutely nothing about guilt or innocence. They are part of the game. So don't try to read anything into what is a routine step in the dance.

10. Because he wants to STAY innocent...
I think his position is not that he did or did not run all that money through the Maytag, but that it shouldn't be a crime to do that in the FIRST place...

Too Bizarro.

13. DeLay Delay Tactic
This is all about holding on to his power as long as he can and milk this scandal for his own personal gain.

It was reported this morning, his people operate out of Blount's office and DeLay has an office and is still twisting arms and shaking down lobbists. It's even easier for the weasel now since he's got Blount to cover his ass and tracks.

The longer the trial and conviction/acquital takes, it keeps this nice little arrangement in place. It also allows DeLay to play victim...he's already raised at least $300k for his "defense fund" ontop of his other political slush funds. This dude doesn't miss a trick.

Next, he'll want the venue moved from Travis County. Good chance the fix is in here...at least as far as the judges are concerned. I suspect he'll get the trial moved to Waco or Amarillo or some very RED (codeword: White) area where his jury nullification ads have worked best.

This seems to be the new Repugnican tactic...when caught or in trouble, just go underground...cause the corporate media won't look for you there.
