"Bubbles" disses Shrub...
For some strange reason I just happened to read Liz Smith's gossip column today in the daily local fishwrap, something I almost never do but glad I did today.

She's talking about the big party for Mike Wallace and says that Beverly Sills was there announcing to all that she turned down an invitation from Shrub for a National Endowment for the Arts shindig since she is "not impressed by what Bush has not done for the arts."

4. I'd like to agree, but...
she's been a major force in the arts since her retirement from singing, and has necessarily remained generally somewhat apolitical.

When she was running Lincoln Center, she was smart enough to know you can't get into political dogfights while asking for million-dollar checks from the big donors, and she still raises loads of money for the arts and other good stuff.

So, I'll gladly take this snub of Shrub-- it's as good as it's gonna get from that crowd.

5. The arts are very important as far as I am concerned. Not just for the
artists, but for kids. I think the arts are essential for kids. It helps them to learn how to think outside of the box and encourages free thought. Essential in a democracy really. That is why freepers hate them I think.
