Trying to write Value statements about "Social Programs".
From women's perspective.

Reading Howard Zinn's chapter on Women's History in the U.S., titled "The Intimately Oppressed" , and trying to understand what this means about "Self Evident" "Equality" "Liberty" and pursuit of Property. Or Liberty, Equality, and pursuit of Happiness in the Declaration of Independence, I believe, at a time when many People "Owned" other People.

1. Well, a deep subject

As someone with a mother, I can say that how she relates to me is liken unto a social program.

She practically owned me, yet she always wanted what was best for me, often at great cost to her.

Still, to this day, she wants me to be self evident, have equality and liberty, and wants me to be able to pursue my happiness.

Mom, gotta love her!

2. The Question is who counts as a person
Person's get rights; non-person's get no rights.

The writers of the Constitution believed in rights for those who were persons, while not believing in rights for non-persons. This isn't unique to them; most peoples at one time or another have others that don't count as real people. Look at how the wealthy republican commentators talk about the poor today; do they see them as real persons, co-equal with themselves? Nope.

4. So how many non-persons are there?
The Counted usually stick up for themselves, according to Howard Zinn.
