Republicans woo Democrats on Alito vote

WASHINGTON: The Bush administration is courting moderate Democrats to support the Supreme Court nomination of conservative U.S. Judge Samuel Alito.

Tuesday Alito was sent on a get-acquainted session with Sen. Tim Johnson, D-S.D., and arranged for the nominee to meet Wednesday with two other Democratic moderates, Ben Nelson of Nebraska, and Mark Pryor of Arkansas, The Washington Post said.

"I think it would be natural to try to reach out to people who hadn't yet taken a position or might give some consideration," said former Sen. Daniel Coats, R-Ind., whom the White House has enlisted to guide Alito though the Senate.

2. I'll say it again, this guy is not a dem Ben Nelson of Nebraska...
He's a republican who had to call himself a dem so he could run for office. Look at his voting record.

4. Why would anyone choose to run as a Democrat in Nebraska?
Bush won the state 66% to 33% last year.

7. Who said anything about giving up?
I was simply refuting the ridiculous notion that Nelson is pretending to be a Democrat so he will have an easier time at be elected.

5. "Woo"...nice word for threaten?
"The Bush administration is courting moderate Democrats"

Does "courting" mean threatening? Twisting elbows?
Rover is still by Lieboy's side making helpful suggestions.

Assuming Scalito makes it out of committee...(Hatch said Alito "is terrific".)
The Republican controlled Senate has 55 votes, they don't need to muscle Democrats unless some of their own are planning on voting no. The DINOs are already in their court. It could fall down the usual lines. 77 to 23? Unless there's a filibuster. Followed by a rule change.

Sigh Back to the Stone Age. Agreed on Ben Nelson (DINO)...and jeebuss, does he seriously think we believe that's his own hair? Yikes. A dead marmot.
