Police: Evacuees' FEMA money used to buy crack
Edited on Thu Nov-03-05 07:47 PM by CatWoman
I don't condone this.

However, I expect a lot more stories like this.

You see, this links back to the looting, and the outrage Bush's base expressed when they learned that the evacuees would receive $2000 debit cards.

I don't know what to believe -- I almost fell for the phony handbag story.

One thing I can tell you: Gwinnett County isn't exactly African-American friendly.

The three guys washed up at an extended-stay hotel in Norcross, part of the wave of Hurricane Katrina evacuees who flooded temporary housing facilities across metro Atlanta earlier this year.

But instead of using Red Cross and FEMA aid to buy furniture, groceries or all those incidentals that you need after fleeing a hurricane, police say they had a high old time buying and selling crack.

Now, Gwinnett police said Thursday, the three are staying at the Graybar Hotel — the Gwinnett County Detention Center — where they are charged with selling crack and possessing marijuana.

Ronald Michael Claude, 22; Gary Lee Leonard, 23; and Michael Joseph Sanson, 20, all of New Orleans, remained jailed without bond Thursday afternoon on the felony charge of selling crack, said Officer Darren Moloney, a spokesman for Gwinnett police.

Police were happy to put them behind bars, Moloney said.

3. well, that's NOTHIN'!!! I heard from a friend of mine...
who read it somewhere that those female evacuees were usin' the money for RECREATIONAL ABORTIONS...SOMETIMES MORE THAN ONE! And if they had money left over, they bought liquor and cigarrettes! And then, after they smell of booze and smoke, they'd ride the buss to the NICE part of town just to harrass the CITIZENS!

4. On the bright side..
They used the money to start a profitable business!

Conservatives should be happy about that.

6. Well to start with it is very Pollyanna to believe that every resident
in the City of New Orleans was a law abiding citizen.
If that were true, then NOLA wouldn't have had one of the highest crime rates in the country, nor would it have the most corrupt police force in the country.
However, if they are going to follow every criminal that came out of NOLA, then they should give equal time to the ones (who are in the majority) that are making new lives and utilizing that measly $2k to start their lives in new parts of the country.

“I had never experienced anything like this,” said Powell. “I’ve always been very independent. And to have to depend on someone else for your next meal, and wonder where you’re going to go and what you’re going to do is very unsettling — humbling.

“I don’t consider myself prideful, but I was taught to do things for yourself, because nobody’s going to do them for you.”

But upon entering the shelter, she was forced to realize the magnitude of their situation, and that for the the first time in her life, she was going to have to depend upon the kindness of strangers.

Is it marked? Or do the dealers take debit cards now?

13. The RWers get whacked out over evacuees getting 2k each but
think nothing of the billions and billions of dollars that have been squandered in the unnecessary Iraq war. They bitch about giving their fellow Americans 2K after they lost everything in the worst natural disaster to hit this country, but didn't make a peep when our government funded 150K given to each of the settlers forced to leave the Gaza Strip (think it totaled 6 billion). They complain about 'welfare mamas' and various social programs that help the poor but think its okay to dole out billions in tax breaks to the wealthiest in our society and they could give a rat's ass about corporate welfare handouts.

Their priorities are so messed up its not even funny anymore. Our children and grandchildren will be paying the bills that this corrupt administration is racking up and all they can manage to do is pick on the most vulnerable members of society. Compassionate conservatism, my ass.
