getting PBS back?
whoo hoo!!!!!

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Kenneth Tomlinson, the former board chairman of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting accused by critics of trying to politicize public television and radio, has resigned from the board, it said on Thursday.

Tomlinson, a Republican, quit shortly before CPB Inspector General Kenneth Konz was to publish a report after investigating his activities, including paying outside researchers to check public programming for liberal bias.

7. Agree. The antiques road show has more time slots than CSI.
Frontline and programs like it have really exposed the Busheviks. They will be driven off the air if the ReThuglicans have their way.

5. oh please...another indictment!
Details of the investigation have not yet been reported. It also looked into the selection of a former co-chair of the Republican National Committee as CPB president, according to Sen. Byron Dorgan (news, bio, voting record), a North Dakota Democrat.

8. More of that patented Republican hypocrisy on display.
He's accusing critics of "politicizing" TV and radio, while all the time HE'S politicizing it...and then he resigns before he can get found out. CLASSIC.

13. You did hear about the study that Tomlinson commissioned, didn't you?
He hired some pollsters to ask people questions about which media outlets they thought were the most trustworthy, expecting to hear (as he no doubt hears nonstop in the RW echo chamber) that PBS and NPR were seen as too liberal, not to be trusted. When the results were tabulated it turns out that NPR and PBS were seen as the most balanced media outlets in the U.S. ...

9. Looks like there is still work to be done at PBS ...
... before it reverts back to its old persona:

"Center for Digital Democracy Executive Director Jeff Chester, a critic of Tomlinson, said his departure was unlikely to stop what he described as behind-the-scenes programming pressure on PBS and NPR.

"Board chair Halpern and vice chair Gaines will continue Tomlinson's legacy to reshape public broadcasting more to the liking of conservatives," Chester said in a statement.

Veteran Republican Party fund-raisers Cheryl Halpern and Gay Hart Gaines were elected in September as CPB board chairman and vice chair, respectively."

14. Poll Data Show No “Bias” Problem
"The far-right-wing majority directors at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting have a secret they don’t want to tell the American public. CPB board Chair Ken Tomlinson and his cronies have kept the results of two “National Public Opinion” surveys under wraps. These documents, buried in an annual report to Congress but neither released to the press nor shared with PBS and NPR, reveal that the overwhelming majority of the U.S. public is happy with PBS and NPR programming. Such conclusions are bad news for the GOP-led CPB board, which is pushing an agenda designed to reshape public broadcasting programming to suit their own ideological biases. Consequently, CPB has refused to make the poll data public...."

19. This is excellent news...!!!
I am thrilled that in this day and age of rethuglican domination that the good guys were able to win one...

All articles I have read about this point to one, over-riding fact, the total hypocrisy of appointing a republican politico to investigate the political "liberal slant" of the programming...

They got caught with their hands in the cookie jar, and this bodes well for the future...
