WHAT IS GOING ON IN SEATTLE?
Seems like a huge demonstration at the Federal Bldg. - I can't see it from where I am, but I can hear it, sounds like lots of people with bullhorns - and its pouring rain too?

24. Bridger was hot dog skiing! Learned how to ski on Deer Park
and damn near broke my neck! By the time I hit the bowl at Big Sky I felt like a pro. I'll take Bridger over Big Sky any day. (Of course, I haven't skid in 20 years since I moved to Iowa...so maybe I'd better stay off the mountain!

10. Seattle Students Protest The War In Iraq
Could this be it?

Seattle Students Protest The War In Iraq

Hundreds of local students opposed to the war in Iraq left school early today to march in the streets of Seattle . They're not the first generation to be split by a war. We saw it with Vietnam . Everyone believes in peace, it's just that nobody agrees on how we get there.

19. Here's the roundup
KOMO-TV: www.komotv.com
KING-TV: www.king5.com
KIRO-TV: www.kirotv.com

There is nothing on any of the three above websites re: what's going on in downtown Seattle right now. If there are people demonstrating out there, I have to hand it to them. It's monsoon season in Seattle; we're getting pounded with rain 30 miles east of downtown as well.

29. We live in a really weird "convergence zone"
east of Seattle. We'll often get weather people in the rest of the Puget Sound don't get -- either 5-10 degrees hotter or colder, for instance. We didn't get snow, however. It's very chilly and the rain is torrential, but no snow...

Then I turned on NW Cable News, and nothing. So if something's going on around here, nobody's talking about it on the teevee.

25. What's the name of that trade organization located in Seattle? Protests
of CAFTA, or whatever aimed at them -- I think it's WTO -- and with Bush in S.A. their protests might be intended to support those. Just my guess.

26. WTO is not located in Seattle.
You may be thinking of the big WTO protest that happened here a few years ago when the WTO had meetings here. For a year or two after that, there were "anniversary protests" but I can't remember if they had one last year. And, it's too early in the month for it. As I recall, it was later in the month.

And for the record, I hope they don't have any more -- I am still totally pissed off about what happened during the original protests. I'm not pissed at the organized protesters -- they were just fine, orderly, etc. But of course, there HAD to be the small groups of trouble-makers who just up-ended everything, got in the way of ordinary people just trying to do their business, and everyting ended up with a stand-off against the police. Windows were broken, defaced, etc. My reaction to all of that was, "How DARE you come into my home (city) and act this way?!!" I still want to smack the shit out of every little cretin who participated in that crap. (Again, not the majority of the protesters, just the troublemakers.)

30. DH and I were both born in Seattle
It's my town. I support the right of peaceful protest. I don't support the rights of those who cause property damage. I was also not enthralled with the reported National Guard troops who were not wearing badges or identification.

>I still want to smack the shit out of every little cretin who participated in that crap.<

I was up most of that night listening to the coverage on KIRO-AM and crying. I couldn't believe that this was happening in My Town. We were also less than amused to discover that DH's grandma (late 70's at that time,) and grandpa decided to march that afternoon. They were one street over from the major problems, so they were safe, but sheesh, grandma!

Grandma turned 80 this year. She's still going to protests.

32. I was watching it on TV and simultaneously crying and yelling
God, it got so ugly! And like you, I am all for peaceful protests (I participated in the one on, what was it -- the 8th of Oct -- and it was wonderful. But when people use it as an excuse to destroy property, etc. then they ought to be rounded up and put on a deserted island somewhere and leave the more civilized among us alone!

Your Grandmother was at the WTO thing? Wow -- I'm sure glad she did not get caught up in the middle of all the trouble!

(Oh yeah, I'm also not fond of military personnel who aren't easily identified.)

which happens to be home to hundreds of low-income people.

33. Yep...that's what I was thinking of...only I guess I thought for some
reason they had some offices located there. Reckon I thought wrong. thanks for setting me straight. Yeah...those trouble-seekers cause a lot of trouble for EVERYONE...

I love your home town. Visited for about a week some years back and absolutely loved it. It's one of the "cities" that I'd live in, given a choice. San Francisco, New York City and Seattle. That's my list.

I was born in Seattle too.

Thanks again!

31. I really can't...
I found their number at their website and called; told them they might want to get over to the federal building since there was a rather noisy protest in action.

I'm in Colorado, so it's not like I can jump in the car and see what's going on.
