John Dean: There WILL be more indictments - Cheney-Libby Conspiracy??
A Cheney-Libby Conspiracy, Or Worse? Reading Between the Lines of the Libby Indictment
By JOHN W. DEAN
----
Friday, Nov. 04, 2005

In my last column, I tried to deflate expectations a bit about the likely consequences of the work of Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald; to bring them down to the realistic level at which he was likely to proceed. I warned, for instance, that there might not be any indictments, and Fitzgerald might close up shop as the last days of the grand jury's term elapsed. And I was certain he would only indict if he had a patently clear case.

Now, however, one indictment has been issued -- naming Vice President Cheney's Chief of Staff Lewis "Scooter" Libby as the defendant, and charging false statements, perjury and obstruction of justice. If the indictment is to be believed, the case against Libby is, indeed, a clear one.

Having read the indictment against Libby, I am inclined to believe more will be issued. In fact, I will be stunned if no one else is indicted.

Indeed, when one studies the indictment, and carefully reads the transcript of the press conference, it appears Libby's saga may be only Act Two in a three-act play. And in my view, the person who should be tossing and turning at night, in anticipation of the last act, is the Vice President of the United States, Richard B. Cheney.

1. I have only one question...
WHEN did the President know, and if he didn't...why not?

5. Did you know that the prominent Iraqi who said the "sweets and flowers"
thing to this administration about going into Iraq, was invited to a WH party in January of 2003? He said afterward that he had to sit down and explain to Bush the differences about Sunnis, Shias and Kurds. Ok, that's not bad, if you're talking about the finer details of the differences, it is a complex topic, however, he said that he actually had to tell Bush that Iraqis were divided into different sects and ethnic groups like that. Bush didn't know! I'd really like to laugh, but at that time he already made the decision to go to war and was only about two months from doing so. Ok, that's pretty standard stuff, so Bush didn't even know that Iraq was split into Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds almost up until the time we went to war. Maybe he isn't as dumb as some people think, but he's ignorant as a clump of dirt. It's one thing to be dumb, but another to be willfully ignorant. That's what makes him so dangerous. He doesn't know anything nor does he want to. Yikes!

4. Is it a crime for Cheney to tell Libby about Valerie Plame?

7. no
because they both have security clearances and non-disclosure agreements. only when you leak it out does it become a crime. unless you conspire to tell that person to leak it, then you become a part of the crime. that is where Cheney is sitting. no one has accused him of leaking but he probably conspired to make it happen.

9. Yes.
Just because some people have top security clearances doesn't necessarily mean they are allowed to know the names of every single covert spy we have.
