DU'ers Trashing Kerry With No Actual Evidence Or Direct Quotes- Pathetic
Edited on Sat Nov-05-05 11:08 AM by cryingshame
Someone please provide the actual quote, from Kerry's own mouth, where he denies saying anything about Election Fraud?

All I've seen so far is reference to a misleading Rawstory headline that links to a statement from someone in Kerry office and not the Senator himself. Rawstory claims "THE Kerry Sspokesman". The irony here is that many people now hyperventilating have slammed Rawstory as unreliable.

Additionally, where is the ACTUAL quote where Kerry says he believes there WAS Election Fraud or that 2004 was stolen?

Cause all I've seen is a casual recounting from an Author who is trying to sell his book. If Miller wants to consider himself a reputable journalist, he can give us a direct Kerry quote and indicate whether Kerry knew he was on record or not.

I want to know exactly what Kerry said to Miller and the context.

snarky at times. I prefer David Wade as he preserves snark for the Republicans.

I think the truth is somewhere in the middle. Miller overplayed the story to make it more compelling and Backus underplayed it (BADLY) because Kerry needed it underplayed to preserve other efforts.

People may not understand that as much as WE all want to hear about the theft every day blasted in headlines, it may not be helpful to have quotes attributed to Kerry when he's still involved in election lawsuits in Ohio.

Still waiting for Miller to post an actual quote and indicate if it was Kerry speaking on record.

9. Red Herring. And Please Provide Actual Kerry Quote That Started This
Miller wants to be considered a professional journalist, let him provide an actual quote officially attributed to Kerry.

Not some general story from some party.

Was Miller taking notes at the time? Was he drinking?

And the kicker, are you one of the DU'ers who've trashed Rawstory for being unreliable? Cause the second "Kerry Quote" didn't actually come from Kerry and that misinformed title was posted at Rawstory.

As for rawstory, I'm as cynical of them as anyone else. Same goes for Miller. But this is prototypical Kerry, if you've been paying any attention at all.

It is 'prototypical" of Kerry and if it wasn't, there wouldn't be such discussions about sorting out what Kerry did or didn't say.

There is always confusion surrounding what Kerry has said, because his style is to obfuscate.

And, yes, I would like to see her replaced with someone tougher and smarter not snarkier. My guess is that she was the one in the office at the time. I prefer David Wade.

20. I think
that Miller said in the AAR interview -- which I haven't listened to -- that Kerry merely *didn't* say that it was off the record.

I take that to mean that Kerry didn't realize that a casual conversation with someone handing him a book at a fundraiser needed to be categorized as "off the record" or else this person would feel free to recount his version on AirAmerica. I wouldn't be surprised if Kerry expressed general agreement with the idea that there was fraud and shenanigans in Ohio, and Miller took it to mean that he agreed with the much stronger claim that "the election was stolen," which is a horse of a different color.

22. I believe a staff spokesperson
*can* speak for the senator -- she would've checked it with him, and if she'd messed it up, a correction would've been issued. So a statement from his office is as good as a statement from Kerry, unless we hear something different from him personally.

16. Yeah, I gotta post that this thread, and one other REALLY taught me
who the smart, decent people on this board are. I don't expect people to love everything about every Democrat, but the extremity of the hatred coming from even long-time members here which is not even based on anything Kerry is reliably documented to have said shocked me. It really means something to me that people who are distinctly NOT in love with him, or would have prefered a different candidate last year have come forward to say not "don't hurt Kerry" or even "Democrats should defend other Democrats," but--don't lie? Don't hate. Work with facts.

I guess it's easier to make a broad-brush personal attack in a separate thread than individual personal attacks that might get removed? It's really too bad that discussion isn't deemed sufficient. What the hell ... attacking the messengers as a vague group rather than the individual messages is so much more satisfying.

and not answered, in the other threads.

And there are multiple other threads.

I take this as more of a "meta" complaint that there are posts that are merely to trash someone based on hearsay. He is not calling out specific DU'ers, just suggesting that certain behavior occurring at DU is inappropriate.

FWIW, there have been plenty of personal attacks in the other threads that I expected would be removed, and they have not been. Flame war seems to be the order of the day today. I do not know why.

Here's the link to MC Miller's account, as close to a quote as I can imagine. What happened later with staff statements should be viewed with this first-person account in mind.
<http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=203&topic_id=399775&mesg_id=399790>

Or you can go to DU's "Election Reform" forum and search for it there. It's post #10 in this topic <http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=203&topic_id=399775&mesg_id=399775

Kerry's "I know..." reply to Miller's question is IMHO, not exactly
saying "the election certainly was stolen..." I think Miller, in his
enthusiasm for proving theft, which I heartily share, may have
"extended" Kerry's comment a bit.
(edit, add comment to first line)

here is just one link I came up with re Count Every Vote Act:

http://kerry.senate.gov/v3/cfm/record.cfm?id=243484

8/03/2005
John Kerry on the 40th Anniversary of the Voting Rights Act

-------

Real election reform means passing the Count Every Vote Act of 2005, which seeks to end absurdly long lines, the erroneous purging of voters, voter suppression and intimidation, and unequal access to the voting process. {b]The Count Every Vote Act would also incorporate a voter-verified paper trail for use by all voters, including those for whom English is a second language, illiterate voters and voters with disabilities – and mandates national standards in a variety of areas, including voter registration and counting provisional ballots.

Real electoral reform also means fully funding the Help America Vote Act, funding the activities of the Election Assistance Commission, and helping states invest in better voting machines with paper trails. That means putting partisan politics aside and joining together as proud citizens to eliminate barriers to voting, encourage the greatest level of civic participation possible, and restore the confidence of the American people.

“One of the most significant ways we must continue the fight for civil rights and voting rights is with the nomination of our next Supreme Court Justice. We all know the crucial role the Supreme Court plays in protecting and preserving voting rights and civil rights. So far, what we’ve learned about Judge Roberts’ record on these areas is troubling, and I intend to keep pressing for all the relevant information on his record so the Senate can make an informed decision on this lifetime appointment.

“I hope Washington can come together to make election reform a reality, because there is no greater right than the right to vote. This precious right was hard-fought by brave American citizens who risked their lives to register voters, who marched, who stared down Bull Connor’s police dogs, who faced the threat of lynching, and some who even lost their lives fighting to open up the polls and make the right to vote real for every American.

53. “Kids Come First Act” - S114
“Kids Come First Act”
Bill Summary of S.114

Currently children in America are not getting the health care they need:

    1 out of every 4 children is not fully up to date on basic immunizations;
    Half of all uninsured children have not had a well child visit in the past year;
    1 out of every 3 of children with chronic asthma do not get a prescription for medications they need;
1 in 5 has trouble accessing needed care; and
1 in 3 went without health insurance for all or part of 2002 and 2003.

The Kids Come First Act is a true federal-state partnership where the best elements of shared responsibility contribute to an affordable, reliable comprehensive system of care for all children.

The bill focuses on three main areas: how to get states to expand coverage; how to get parents to share in the responsibility of covering their children; and how to eliminate enrollment barriers that prevent eligible children from signing up for coverage.

I am pretty sure that Kerry is quite busy and he participates in lots of events.
The problem is, this is not what political leader of this level is supposed to produce.

28. i don't doubt miller's version
and i understand why kerry felt the need to qualify what he told miller via that spokesperson. not a big deal, imho, because the GAO report pretty much clear up the question: the election was stolen.

30. Actual quote about Election fraud
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=273&topic_id=48038&mesg_id=48084

REPORTER: Thousands took part in the march from Roxbury to Boston Commons, and were urged not only to remember the struggle but to continue it, especially with the Voting Rights Act of 1965 up for reauthorization in 2007.

KERRY: We're very concerned about what the Republicans want to do to it. They're trying to put these phony provisions in it, that actually make it harder for people to vote, pretending that they're trying to stop the very thing that they've been engaged in. Which is fraud.

Look at the thread to see the context. (bashers, take note - that is the supporters' forum.)

Oh, wait...that isn't the conversation that's at issue here... This one was actually on tape.

31. According to Miller himself, it went something like this:
Kerry's sister invited Miller to a fundraiser party.

Miller approached Kerry to give him a copy of his book.

Miller exclaimed to Kerry "Senator, the election was stolen"

Kerry replied "I know!" and commenced to talking about what he is trying to do election reform (remember he co-sponsored a bill) and what resistance he has gotten.

It strikes me as a bit of party chat, where Kerry was relaxed and not in "reporter" mode, responding to a bit of hyperbole from Miller, or what he may have taken as such.

It was not an interview by any stretch, and it doesn't appear that Kerry said, as Miller claimes, as in the words came out of his mouth "I know the election was stolen from me."

What is this "Page Six"?

50. ALLEGATIONS & MISINTERPRETATIONS according to Miller...
... Kerry allegedly responded "I know." to Miller's comment "You were robbed!" (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x5264692)

During the course of their very brief encounter, Miller does not state that either he or Kerry made the statement, "The election was stolen." Yet Miller felt free to publicly (mis)interpret Kerry's alleged agreement w/the statement "You were robbed" as Kerry now believing the election was stolen.

IMO, it would appear that Miller is twisting Kerry's alleged agreement w/his (Miller's) comment ("You were robbed!") during a brief encounter into something that it was not (the election was stolen), possibly to further his (Miller's) own agenda, whatever it may be.

Kerry is capable of speaking for himself and does speak for himself... I'll listen to & evaluate his own words... not some third party who has neither the authority nor the consent to speak for or represent him.

54. In addition, a third party with a new book out
It looks like Kerry's spokesperson was right to rebut Miller, and was quite swift about it. After folks bitched at Kerry for the delay in dealing with the Smear vets, you'd think a swift response would be seen as a GOOD thing.

I have no sympathy for Miller or his crying about Kerry's "despicable" denial of what went on. If you're going to twist an encounter to fit your own agenda, you ask for it.

57. No sympathy for Miller here, either.
It appears that, whether intentional or not, Miller may have let his personal beliefs shape his perspective on his brief encounter w/Kerry... resulting in a misrepresentation of the encounter. Perhaps he was hoping his version of the encounter would be perceived by the public as Kerry's endorsing the book?

Whatever Miller's reasons, his version of the encounter was dishonest, and that is despicable.

64. You were robbed--that can mean a lot of things
It can mean that lies were spread to discredit you, and dissuade likely voters.

It can mean that onerous methodologies were used to prevent people from voting.

It can mean votes were gamed/changed...

It can mean a lot of things.

65. True... and Kerry's alleged response reflects agreement with what...
... he perceived Miller's meaning to be. If Miller had conducted a legitimate, on-the-record interview, perhaps distortions, misperceptions, and misrepresentations might not have occurred, as statements could have been clarified.

34. Some of the statements don't even make sense!
A composite summary of some recent posts:

Asolutemente! Kerry won the election, and now he's trying to lose it again.

Mark said, Kerry said....but Rawstory said that a Kerry spokesperson said that Kerry didn't say what Mark said Kerry said.

Bush was really vulnerable; the election shouldn't have been close enough to be stolen. Gore, however, did great and is now standing up for us.

:wtf:

Opinions are like a**holes, the stinky ones smell up the place.

Find me a person who out votes Kerry on progressive issues (not one---all), who works as hard as he does to promote these issues and who is capable of getting the votes of more than 59 million Americans, and I'd love to see him or her as Kerry's running mate in 2008.

A classical riposte, rebuttal, repudiation and all-round demolition of all the nonsense.

41. I am trashing him for not fighting for my voting right, democracy
This is not about him - he doesn't have the luxury of standing 'behind" on this one. The spokesman possible fiasco would just be the cherry on top.
My teacup runneth over.

Have your Senators cosponsored this bill? If not, are you bugging them to sign on?

61. Not much to deny "You were robbed" "I know"
turned into "John Kerry said he now believes that the fraud happened and he should have won"

He misrepresented party chat as some big revelation.

I would have preferred a formal interview, thanks. That little chat was SO open to interpretation.

and Kerry should never talk to him again.

I would like to know the truth. What the hell is going on.

62. look at all these people trashing kerry because he didnt say stolen
nov 3rd. i can swear there was just a very small group of people on this board that felt the election was stolen adn kerry had very LITTLE support to not concede. further i think it was the non kerry likers that didnt support election stolen adn instead said he lost because he ran a poor campaign. now i see the kerry non supporters say kerry wussed and conceded to soon because he won AND he ran a poor campaign, even though he didnt lose

how many of you now jumping kerry's ass suported election fraud nov 3rd. cause i didnt hear you voice on the 3rd

68. You certainly heard me - see my handle?
besides, if some people didn't realize it then, it's mostly kerry's fault for not making it an issue like Gore did. His rapid concession helped BFEE and MSM to hide the theft.

70. Kerry threw in the towel without a fight
He was the most pathetic excuse for a candidate. I had to hold my nose to vote for him. At least Edwards was ready to rumble. And I'm not an Edwards fan, either.
