If I wanted to be a Dictator of America

If I wanted to be a Dictator the first thing I would do would be to obtain the position of President. If I didn't believe I could win honestly, the first thing I would attempt would be to cheat on behalf of the members of Congress and/or those running for Congress. In order to obtain their cooperation, I would have to give them something in return. Maybe a promise not to look into illegal campaign contributions, maybe a promise of profits from a war, maybe a promise of future election selection or maybe just outright blackmail. I would also look into ways to control the media.

Perhaps it would be helping them set up companies to supply weapons or perhaps it would be monies given to other corporations owned by the media. I would also find a few media whores to spin propaganda on my behalf. Also, I would make sure that Supreme Court justices in the states in which I could buy the election were also controlled by me via controlling the votes they "received" during elections. I would also give orders for anyone who "got too close to revealing the truth" to be fired from their jobs or repressed in some way.

By my control of Congress and some members of the opposing party, I could prevent most of them from looking into the election "selection". An added benefit would be the ones who were out of my control could be replaced with the next "selection". I would also strike a deal with a computer company to make the future "selections" easier and less apt to be detected. Once in total control I could have Congress pass legislation to control the people and to virtually turn the country into the dictatorship I was striving for. Once the laws were passed, there would be no turning back. I wouldn't need to continue paying the media or the media whores because the laws made by my Congress would dictate what was published.

Perfect plan. The only possible glitch in my plan was if they caught on to my corruption prior to the last steps. It is in that step the whole house of cards could fall. The media would be the key. If the media owners woke up and realized once the complete takeover had occurred, their profits from the war or payoffs would cease, they may try to help expose the corruption. I would have a plan to divert attention away from my final steps. This is the crucial period, the period where each day would become increasingly tense. Will I succeed or will my house of cards be tumbled? What diversion can I plan to make it to the last phase?
