2. I thought the Alan Alda character was more likeable and persuasive
which is strange since the show was written by a liberal (Lawrence O'Donnell).

7. Who do you think won?
I thought both had good moments, and Santos' health care arguments were persuasive, but Vinick made his points with much more charisma. If this were a real debate, I think Vinick probably would've come out the winner. I'd like to hear what other DUer's thought.

9. I personally think that Alan Alda is a better actor than Smits
so that probably helped him out in this type of forum

10. I hate to say I thought the same thing...
I wanted Santos to win, but I don't think he came across strongly enough. He kept letting Vinick speak over him, and let Vinick go on and on, without interrupting him. Santos' answers were brief and not nearly as expansive as Vinick's...

12. Vinick made a better case for CAFTA.
I'm against CAFTA in real-life, but Vinick was talking about how great it is for jobs, which Santos just mumbled about special-interests as the reason he voted against it.

21. Tried to vote
but it wouldn't take it for some unknown computery reason, so the wife emailed NBC:

]The poll on the NBC site keeps indicating that there
is some sort of syntax error!! Well Santos won, and
John Pickett and Melodie Pickett want their votes
recorded/counted to reflect their views to that
effect. This isn’t over until ALL the votes are
counted.

Does Diebold have anything to do with this? =)

We are loyal, devoted West Wing watchers!!

Thanks.

25. Thanks. This page was unavailable though most of the evening
One reason for Santos lead is, let's face it, most of the viewers of the WW are Democrats. After all, the freepers have always viewed it as a "democrat" propaganda, with Hollywood and Martin Sheen as liberals.

I thought that Vinick started out stronger, more experienced and Santos was hesitant. But later Santos regained his poise. He was weak on defending his education but was great about universal health care.

Interesting thing about Canada that supposedly is behind the U.S. in inventing new drugs. More and more auto manufacturing jobs are being lost to Canada becaue... it is cheaper to provide health care to the employees.

I loved that when he said that it was a great moment. I know its just a TV show but it does make you wish otherwise sometimes.

"We deal in illusions, man. None of it is true. But you people sit there day after day, night after night, all ages, colors, creeds. We're all you know. You're beginning to believe the illusions we're spinning here. You're beginning to think that the tube is reality and that your own lives are unreal. You do whatever the tube tells you. You dress like the tube. You eat like the tube. You even think like the tube. In God's name, you people are the real thing, WE are the illusion." Howard Beale

24. Personally, I think it came out a tie:
Both candidates gave good enough performances that both sides could realistically claim victory.
