Would you defect to cuba if you were able to do so?
I noticed a thread earlier about some cubans defecting to canada. If you could defect from your country to cuba, would you? If not why not and if so why?

2. Hell no
I would love to go and visit, and take photos, and experience the culture. But I would want to be able to return to the U.S. when I felt like it.

Cuba is not exactly paradise. There's a reason why the Cubans keep defecting to this country.

5. how are we supposed to make an informed guess?
Cuba may as well be Tolkien's "The Undying Lands" for all the accurate, open, info our media fails to deliver.

We're not defectors. our government is defective.

Probably not Cuba, but maybe Canada.

January 1, 2005
In the twenty-four hours following George W. Bush's victory in the American presidential election on November 2, 2004, the Canadian government's Department of Citizenship and Immigration website received 115,016 "hits," six times the average daily number, and double the previous record.

There followed a flurry of media speculation over the prospect of disgruntled American voters leaving their country to settle in Canada or other destinations, including Spain, Mexico, or New Zealand.

9. No, wouldn't have defected to the USSR either

What do you mean if "you were able to?" You go to the Cuban embassy or consulante, if you are in America you go to one in Mexico or Canada, and tell them you want to defect and why.

and then for spelling

10. Truth is, Castro isn't too keen on Americans in Cuba.
Likes the dollars but doesn't like Americans without family or good reasons to be there.

American tourists are suspect and they'll grill you pretty good going in, then often assign you a minder. As of last year anyway.

Offering asylum to Americans? New one on me.
