ABC/WaPo Poll -- Issues Favor Dems in 2006
A Year Out from 2006 Vote, ABC News/Washington Post Issues Poll Suggests Opening for Change
Analysis by GARY LANGER

Nov. 6, 2005 — A year out from the 2006 midterm elections, the Democrats hold an extraordinary lead in voter preferences — but far less of an advantage in the practical elements it can take to turn an out-party's hopes into votes: leadership, anti-incumbency and a unified theme.

(snip)

Indeed, 55 percent of Americans in this ABC News/Washington Post poll say they'd like to see the Democrats take control of Congress in 2006. And if the election were today, registered voters would favor the Democrat in their congressional district by 52-37 percent.

That 15-point margin is numerically the biggest for the Democrats since an ABC/Post poll in September 1984 (they ultimately lost 14 seats), although about the same as a 14-point Democratic lead in one poll in 1996 (when they gained nine).

(snip)

================

Which Party Do You Trust to Handle…
Democrats Republicans
Economy 56% 34%
Social Security 56 29

Federal Budget 48 34
Gas Prices 47 26
Terrorism 42 42
Ethics 42 36

So does their edge in attributes: They hold a 10-point lead, 50-40 percent, as the party that "better represents your personal values."

1. Dems always had the better position when issues were given airtime by the
media - which is exactly why most broadcast media editted out most of the issues throughout the 2002 and 2004 campaigns.

Now, all of a sudden, the media decides to NOTICE?

3. I don't know I think part of it is that the Media likes to be
on the winning side. When Bush looked strong they wanted to stand next to him; now he doesn't look so strong.

17. Exactly
All about raitings and which way the wind blows. Look at what has happened with republicans who align themselves with Bush. They lose.

5. I don't think the media can risk not noticing now.
They see the house of bush crumbling and they know they have to court new sources. They don't investigate anymore, they regurgitate what is feed to them -- the bulimic media.

2. So they favor Democrats but repukes have "stronger" leaders?
True you can smell most of 'em from across a room but what are these strengths? Ability to thoroughly fuck things up?

6. This is because media pushed the whole RNC meme that Republicans
are security-oriented and that warmongering means you're tough.

They rarely mention facts that most Republicans are chickenhawks and know nothing about actual military realities.

They also rarely mention that Republicans side with putting more taxpayer money in the bank accounts of EXECUTIVES at defense companies raking in on their overcharges while Dems side with reducing the profits of the industry while putting more money into the pockets of military personnel and veterans.

7. Depressing as hell, isn't it? The evoting issue should be dealt with
by the Dem politicians ASAP. Dump every damn machine in the nearest RIVER! Or blow them up instead of polluting our rivers :).. Just get rid of them! Paper and pen ONLY.

8. Three national elections (2000, 2002, and 2004) have been
stolen.

What does it take to wake up our "leaders"?

I'm getting ready to vote tomorrow in NC.

In 2002 my vote was switched before my eyes as I closed out my machine. In the primary election of 2004, it took one of my friends twenty minutes to vote because his vote kept getting switched until poll workers finally got his to at least register on the screen before closing out. (Whether it registered internally or not is anybody's guess.)

Vote switching is not a "glitch." Such switches have to be programed.

The only reason I'm voting tomorrow is because I promised a neighbor I'd vote for him.

I have absolutely no confidence my vote will be counted.

Voting in North Carolina is a joke.

:hi: I posted this thread yesterday and dropped like a stone, no one cared. I think it is so friggin encouraging, not just the poll numbers but that the media printed this and reported it on GMA.

And yes, we are neck and neck on terrorism. :wow:

18. Before the next election, we need to make sure everyone checks
their state laws regarding voting. Someone posted a thread earlier about not being allowed to vote by paper ballot in VA, but the VA voter's rights page has a listing called "voters' rights" and it may well be the DUer should have been allowed to cast a paper ballot.

We need to go informed and help inform others. We cannot allow them to steal another election and rob us of our votes.
