What is it with Tax Martyrs?
"I pay so much, boo hoo. I get nothing in return. Everyone else benefits, I don't. The poor get all the good stuff, boo hoo."

1. amazing isn't it...
You'd think roads and emergency workers and public schools and the like just grew on trees or something.

4. Yeah, they don't use any roads,
don't eat food that must be USDA inspected, and their bank deposits aren't insured by the FDIC.

i was jsut talking with soem of my govenrmental cohorts at lunch the other day about what would happen if everything that was ever paid for with tax dollars dissappeared.

it would be an interesting experiment. I bet i know who'd be the first people bitching too.

10. Actually that would be great...a twist on "It's a Wonderful Life"
have all the things that tax dollars pay for just disappear....and then have everyone figure out how to live without those things for a few days...

Now I have to say I don't mind paying taxes as long as the money is accounted for and well spent. I hate seeing my tax dollars pay for war but am happy to see them pay for Medicaid, Medicare, schools..etc

What I normally tell people is this..."Tell me what you would be willing to do without?" What would you willingly give up so that you could pay less.

8. I Don't Get It
Just pay the taxes, understand that it's the price of admission to a complex and developed society, and move on. I don't get the complaining either.

12. Make the poor and middle class whites angry at the blacks
for taking all of their money by sitting around and getting rich off Welfare.

Great trick this one-no one does it stir up racism and anger even amongst those in the same financial position it also distracts so they don't see the already wealthy driving out with TRUCKLOADS of cash.

17. The tax whiners can't look beyond their own lives.
You're asking far too much of them Professor. "Society? What society? It's MY life I'm pissed off about! Why did I take all those student loans out??!"

9. I consider myself amazingly fortunate to have to pay as much as I do.
My wife and I pay over $60,000 per year. I couldn't be happier, it means we are doing really well.

11. that is kind of how I see it...
if I am paying a lot in taxes...that means I am better off than most...and if I can't make it on what my husband and I make...than it has more to do with our life choices than taxes...

If anything I gripe about health insurance which I think is a scam...but that is privately controlled.

13. With Republicans in power, most Americans do get very little
including the poor.

So I think its a legitimate complaint, in some cases.

15. thats where I point to sales taxes
rich and poor alike pay the same in sales taxes, the difference is that the poor pays on things like food and water, while others pay it on plasma tv's and super suround sound systems. Some states don't allow sales taxes on food and water (that is the way to go in my opinion).

14. Civilization is Not Free
I guess when RWers say, "Freedom isn't Free" they are talking about something completely devoid of reality. Pretty statement though.. too bad it means nothing, just like every other statement of theirs.

16. STOP BLAMING THE POOR AND THE POWERLESS!
THEY AREN'T THE ONES SCREWING YOU!

That is my standard line as soon as I start hearing about how much you pay in taxes and illegals getting FREE baby deliveries and Welfare queens...etc.

19. I have no issue at all with taxes, providing........
They are used for police, fire, school, health care, infrastructure.

It's the remaining 98% that goes to war and servicing the national debt that truly pisses me off.
