An Indiana Congressman and fate
In the District where the tonados killed 22 people,

from Dailykos http://www.dailykos.com/

The district is represented by GOP Rep. John Hostettler, who was one of eleven in the House to vote against the mammoth Katrina aid package last month.

Hostettler was excoriated by editorial boards (and even a local priest) for his vote.

The tornado killed 22 people and injured more than 200 in Vanderburgh County. Suddenly, Hostettler's heartlessness to the victims of the Katrina disaster has local salience.

3. This is a tragedy for the community and families affected.
Think how commonplace these tragedies have become. "Only" 22 people died -- a huge number by the standards of just a few years ago -- so there is very little interest in the story. What is happening to us? What are we becoming? A nation of coldhearted people. I traveled through Evansville frequently, and I love southern Indiana in general. This is a terrible event.

4. This should be the closing vignette on many a national news broadcast,
Edited on Mon Nov-07-05 03:55 PM by Divernan
and merit lot of blistering op-ed columns and editorials.
On edit:

John Donne wrote this over 400 years ago.
No man is an island, entire of itself,
Every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main.

Any man's death diminishes me
Because I am involved in mankind.
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls.
It tolls for thee.

And the bells tolling after the Gulf Coast hurricane were tolling for YOU and your, Congressman Hostettler!

5. They shouldn't be allowed to waste federal dollars rebuilding in
a place prone to tornadoes.
