1. I voted on one today in New Haven!
Thank God I live in a blue city and in a blue state. I feel truly blessed.

2. Hey!
That sort of looks like the machine I used to vote today. Seriously!

3. I know what you mean

Unfortunately, I don't live in a blue state.

I do miss those lever machines though. There is something about pulling that lever and hearing your vote being cast.

on edit: it's a lever, not a level. :)

4. Hey, I voted on one of those babies today!

New York state! We still have the old machines here. Of course, we made them, too.

This time, a guy stood next to the machine and pushed a little button on the side of the machine every time someone voted. I hope it was just a counter. Because I don't remember that happening before.

Of course, until 2004 I sort of had faith in the electoral process, so maybe I just didn't notice before.

On edit: it's interesting that those states who still have the old machines are Blue. Hmmmmm....

5. That little button resets the machine
We were not only taught how to vote on those but how they work as well.

6. Interesting... but why does it need to be reset?
Because when you pull the curtain open all the levers go back to the starting point. Seems like the machines could have been made to reset themselves.

7. This is the kind of machine we have in NYC.
Small levers for each individual vote, and a big lever at the bottom that you move when you are done.

8. I just used one of the old "punchcard" ballots...
and maybe for the last time. :(

hope we go with optical scanners. at least you can scan the vote again in case a recount is needed.
