Rep. Kucinich's Resolution of Inquiry Into WHIG (White House Iraq Group)
ALERT!! CONTACT C-SPAN IMMEDIATELY, PLEASE
H.RES 505N VOTE WILL BE TOMORROW
10:30 a.m. ET on WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 9TH.

The Backbone Campaign and the After Downing Street Coalition members, allies have done a great job recruiting co-sponsors and lobbying for Congressman Dennis Kucinich's Resolution of Inquiry H. Res. 505 calling for a release of documents from the White House Iraq Group (WHIG).

Congressman Smith and Kucinich's offices have worked very hard on this effort. Now we need you to give the last push. We need the cameras in the room to expose Republican stonewalling. Contact C-Span first and then any other media you can to be sure they have someone in the room and know that "This Is News!"
Contact C-Span Tonight: events@c-span.org
or for those on the East Coast early tomorrow morning at (202) 737-3220. They'll be deciding early in the morning.

Please politely and in your own words ask C-Span to cover this event:

WHAT:
House International Relations Committee scheduled to debate and vote on H. Res. 505, a Resolution of Inquiry into the White House Iraq Group
WHEN:
10:30 a.m. ET, Wednesday, November 9, 2005

WHERE:
Rayburn House Office Building, Room 2172.
(Southwest of the Capitol on a site bounded by Independence Avenue, South Capitol Street, First Street, and C Street, S.W., Washington, D.C.)

SIGNIFICANCE:
H Res 505 now has 100 co-sponsors! This will be the first vote Congress takes on investigating the White House Iraq Group (WHIG) and the first vote related to the war since Vice Presidential Chief of Staff Lewis Libby was indicted. This vote will be a key test of whether Republicans will continue to stand behind the White House's case for war.

BACKGROUND: On September 14, the International Relations Committee defeated by one vote a Resolution of Inquiry (H. Res. 375) into White House and State Department communications with the United Kingdom involving Iraq war plans. Every Democrat present voted in support of the resolution, as did one Republican (J. Leach R-IA). A second Republican voted "Present" (R. Paul R-TX).

The VOTE WILL BE TOORROW:
AT 10:30 a.m. ET on WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 9TH, in the House International Relations Committee, (H.I.R.C.).

One-page text of Resolution: PDF.

Our highest priority is to contact these Democratic Members of the House International Relations Committee yet to co-sponsor or commit to vote in support of the Resolution:

Berkley, Shelley (Nevada, 1st) speak with or leave message for Matthew Horowitz. Co-sponored H. Res. 375 and H. Res. 363
Berman, Howard (California, 28th) speak with or leave message for Doug Campbell. Co-sponored H. Res. 363
Delahunt, William (Massachusetts, 10th), speak with or leave message for Cliff Stammerman. Co-sponored H. Res 375 and H. Res. 363
Faleomavaega, Eni (American Samoa, Delegate), Is the Congressman in Town? Will he attend the meeting and vote with the rest of the Democrats? Lisa Williams does IR work, would not answer questions on abence on 375. If he can not bring himself to vote with the Democrats, then perhaps he should deal with other business.
Schiff, Adam (California, 29th) speak with or leave message for Tim Bergreen. Co-sponored H. Res. 363

Our highest priority is to contact these Democratic Members of the House International Relations Committee, and make sure that all who have pledged support show up.

Nice Work ALL!

Please Remember to say "Thank You." Congressman Adam Smith (D-WA) has been leading on this effort with both a guest OpEd in the Seattle P.I. (Click hereto read) and with a joint 'Dear Colleague' letter with Rep.s Tauscher, Lee, and Kucinich. Dennis Kucinich has been a tireless champion for progressive causes. Please say thank you to them and the Co-sponsors. Go to the Spine Card page (Click here) to download pdf files for postcard or bifold Thank You cards.

14. Bad news:
House Committee votes against WHIG investigation (by 2 votes)

H. Res 505 Fails In House I.R. Committee by 2 Votes

Congress H Res 505, introduced by Rep. Dennis Kucinich to require the Bush administration to turn over all documents relating to the White House Iraq Group, failed to be reported out of the House International Relations Committee on a 23-25 vote this morning.

H Res 505, which was co-sponsored by 104 House members, picked up two Republican votes from Rep. Jim Leach and Rep. Ron Paul. Two Democratic committee members failed to appear for the vote: Rep. Eni Faleomavaega of American Samoa and Rep. Howard Berman of California's 28th district.
