Gay Rights Ban Is Losing In Maine!

Keep your fingers crossed. If this loses, it's a big victory for justice and liberty.

And a big loss for the Christian right.

Wanna take bets as to whether the media will cover this as much as they do Texas?

Voting NO means you support the anti-discrimination law

OOps, misread your post.

It's looking good so far

3. It is not a loss for the Christian right. It will not make one molecule

of difference to their lives or marriages or to who attends their churches or get married in them.

It doesn't affect the Christian right at all. I see banks on the street corners of every small town in America - and no bibles have set themselves on fire! Why is it when it is a wrong in the New Testament but usefull for religious people - it gets a pass?

4. It sure would be a loss for them
in the strategic sense. They can't get a foothold in the ENTIRE region of the Northeast. And their numbers are dwindling in every election.

Their attempts to subvert New England hence grow feebler and feebler and they will eventually stop trying.

21. But the Christian right won't see it the way you do.

They whine about persecution and a "gay agenda"; like orgies will suddenly break out in elementary schools if gays have any rights.

jobs, housing, and public accomodations just because they're gay? And they call themselves Christians?

10. Good for you guys!!!!!
Wohoo! Of course, gay rights isn't quite the same thing in people's minds as gay marriage. Gay marriage ban passed in Oregon, but none of the other gay bashing initiatives have ever passed.

15. I'm eating oysters in Oregon
Been fighting that fight for years now. We tried to get civil unions and gay rights this year and it had strong support. We've got a shit of a Republican house leader who has just fucked up everything this year, including that bill. Sucks. I think it's so stupid. An old geezer called me last year about the gay marriage ban. I tried to explain it wouldn't change anything, it wasn't authorizing gay marriage if it didn't pass. It would just keep that kind of discrimination out of our constitution. He said he just didn't want all the "fags" in the country pouring into Oregon. I got irate and told him he was just too stupid to talk to and hung up on him. Ugh.

Anyway, trade ya' some yummy Oregon oysters for some yummy Maine lobster!!

:)

17. Not much of a 'gain'.
Isn't this 'gain' just the inability of the RW to repeal a non-discrimination law that was already resolved? Do we now get excited when they don't repeal what we fought for last year?
