5. Not likely theft this time
From my vantage point (Columbus) it didn't seem that Dems were united on the Reform Ohio platform, while Repubs were all against Issues 2-5. It's hard for a Dem candidate to win statewide election here, let alone a reform issue that didn't have widespread and consistent support from the Dems. The vote totals reflect that it was a progressive alliance that spearheaded the Reform Ohio initiative and not the broader Democratic party.

20. You're right.
I didn't hear much from the Democratic party about these issues. And the anti-issues 2-5 commercials were very deceptive and very effective.

7. So, then the other thing Repukes won on was making sure that
elections aren't transparent.

Bashing gay people- Check.

Fraudulent elections- Check.

All in a day's work for the Repukes.

9. Reports of 'irregularities' started bright and early this afternoon
BREAKING NEWS

Lucas County voting begins with problems at the polls

FROM THE TOLEDO BLADE (www.toledoblade.com )
November 8, 2005 11:26 a.m.

Voting so far on new touch-screen machines has not been quite as seamless as local board of elections officials had hoped.

Lucas County Board of Elections director Jill Kelly said some voters left the precincts this morning without voting because the machines were not up and running. She urged people who had problems to return and cast their ballots.

...snip...

Ms. Kelly said that several of the county’s 2,000 trained poll workers had to be talked through some problems during the morning. Poll workers at the Sylvania Senior Center could not find the machine’s memory cards and at the Toledo Board of Education building the voting machines could not be found. Those issues were resolved, Ms. Kelly said. And those coming to vote where machines were not yet up and running were given provisional ballots.

She denied reports that voters in some precincts were given the wrong ballot issues to consider. She added that as of about 9 a.m., the calls from the 495 precincts died down significantly.

machines here we wouldn't want to anger them.

23. The "no" side had more ads and phone calls
There were opposition ads running constantly and they made the amendments sound like we wanted to add another layer of bureaucracy. Unless you read about the amendments yourself, they seemed confusing to people. The sad thing is that I believe that everyone who I talked to about them voted "yes," but you needed to have someone spell out the advantages and explain the current corruption.

Also, a quick transcript of a call my mother received...
Caller: Do you support same sex fornication?
Mom: What!?!
Caller: How would you feel if your child was sinning?
Mom: Ummm, my child is 34 and is just fine.
Caller: The same people who supported gay marriage in 2004 want you to vote for Issues 2-5. I urge you to vote "no" on Issues 2-5.
Mom: I already voted "yes" by absentee. Please don't call again.

*Note: My mom looks like every drawing of Mrs. Claus (Santa's wife) you've ever seen, and is incredibly polite. Telling someone not to call again is about as mean as you get in her world.

24. OMG! I can't believe these so-called 'Christian' thugs with no moral
values at all. Same sex forncation! This sounds like what Rove did in Texas when B* ran for gov. Revolting people! Bless your mother...she sounds wonderful!

Thanks so much for the clarification. I wish the whole state had read the GAO report on voter fraud, or it had been at least minimally addressed in the media.
