http://www.syracuse.com/SYRACUSE: ballots, machines impounded
Mahoney obtained a state Supreme Court order today to impound all paper ballots and voting machines used in the mayor’s race, said Helen Kiggins, Onondaga County’s Republican election commissioner.
As a result, sheriff’s personnel probably will take away the commissioners’ keys to the room at the Board of Elections where absentee, military, affidavit and emergency ballots are stored and will seal the lock with evidence tape, Kiggins said. Election officials will be able to access the room during the day, but sheriff’s personnel will lock it at night.
The order also calls for sealing voting machines tonight, but that would happen anyway, Kiggins said. The paper ballots were scheduled to be counted a week from today, Nov. 15. Whether that still will happen then is the subject of a court hearing Monday, Kiggins said.
