80,072 DU user registrations. How many "regular" unregistered lurkers?
Is there any way of knowing this? On an average day about how many hits does DU get from registered users compared to unregistered lurkers? Does anyone keep track of this data? Thanks in advance if you guys keep track of these things and can let us know. And exact figures are not important. Just off the top of your head or average numbers would be interesting to know. Take care and see you later.

9. No, my mistake, I misread...
I think there are probably around 20K regulars. Maybe less. After all, that number is from the beginning of time (DU time) until now.

As far as unregistered goes, I don't know. I did it for a year. I was still only a lurker on 9/11 reading DU from work until I couldn't get to it anymore. Started posting a few months later.

2. Yes there's a way.
During prime time, when the usage is the most intense, you post a really funny graphic in GD served by a webserver you have access to the logs on. With a really funny, irresistable, subject line. Then you count the hits. Then you do another in the Lounge. (If you really want to know, it has to be something that gets a lot of greatest votes and kicks.)

Or the admins could occassionally feed us webstats. :hide:

8. I was just looking for something rough
I was guessing we may have 1 lurker for every 2 registered DUers signed on at any given time. But that is a pure guess.

4. well, 80,000 registrations doesn't mean 80,000 active...
that is since day one. Thousands have dropped out, others have been banned, some are duplicate registrations and so on. I guess there are 2,000-3,000 active DUers.... but even if it's five times that, it's still a lot lower than 80K. The most posts on a single thread in recent days was about 1,200 -- and that was on a very attractive thread that stayed up for a long time. And no one could possibly say how many "unregistered lurkers" there are... though the admins may have a "unique hits" counter that could shed some light on that.

18. I read (or lurked)
for well over a month before I was allowed to register (I tried everyday till they finally started accepting new registrations). Then it took another couple of weeks before I got the nerve to make a post.

But here I am, nearing my 100th post!

19. I think it's more than 20,000
Edited on Tue Nov-08-05 10:55 PM by Old and In the Way
The DU is getting somewhere around 40MM pageviews per day...that must be 1-4 million pairs of eyes, I'd think. Big jump, almost doubled, in the past 2 months...Alex ranks us at 3254 most popular site.
