Colbert Report... What do you think?
Edited on Tue Nov-08-05 10:48 PM by obxhead
I think 1950's Japanese film has been better at matching the verbal tape to the speaking faces.

Why can't they get the sound coming out of his mouth to match the movements of his face.

I like the show, but I expect more than 1950's quality.

1. I think he needs to outsource some of his material.
I like it, but having another "reporter" do some of the work would break it up a bit. Kinda gets tedious.

2. I like it.
For a brand new show, it's hard to expect more than what's been delivered. Amazing that he can do it 4X a week. You've just got to remember he's lampooning the media whores - then it makes sense.

5. I like it too, but I would love it
if his mouth matched up with the sounds coming out of it.

6. I think he is finding his stride with the passing of each week, he
has done fairly well for a "one man band"

Some things are quite funny and I really like his interviews. The first segment of the show really drags at times, though. The sound engineering also bugs me a bit since it sounds like Colbert's mike is almost always recorded too hot and it gets distorted easily. (I don't have any sound synchronization issues, though.)

11. Needs a theme song that isn't a clone of the Daily Show's
The character of a smarmy self-indulgent asshole is good for comic relief, and surprisingly, it almost holds through the 22 minutes of programming. The "The Word" segment is great, lots of the writing is very good, and it hits lots of deserved points very well.

There's a problem here, though, and that's the misfit of format with character. To only see him, and to riff endlessly off the schtick of the egocentric idiot is fun, but it simply doesn't hold long enough.

The premise of only one person is what will kill the show. If there's no way to either have others on or show clips of newsworthy others to break up the visual monotony, the show will fail.

The theme song is hideous, and that needs to go.

12. I find the DS to be leading in to
Colbert myself. It is a shame, It seems Colbert has cut into at least a minute and a half of the DS.
I understand supporting a "fellow" show, but I think Comedy Central should make Colbert stand up on his own 2 feet.

15. Jon Stewart's the exec producer of Colbert's show, so he doesn't
mind plugging it.

17. He sacrifices so much of his own time...
to "plug it" though.

Maybe this is the beginning of the end for the DS?

13. I love it. I've actually been enjoying it more than TDS.
His over-the-top (yeah right) Bill O'Rielly totally cracks me up.

I know some people don't like this sort of satire, but I LOVE it.

16. For a 2 week old show it's fantastic. Much better than SBS
I can't stand the half arsed effort that David Spade is peddling. Colbert is batting a solid 85% in my book.

Not sure what the early days of TDS looked like but I suspect Colbert is miles ahead already.

It's a nice later night compliment to the hour...beats the heck out of having TDS followed immediately by Blue Collar TV or that hideous Adam Corolla show *shudder*
